We're ( me & Mrs) looking to ship UK-north east USA/Canada and travel with our motorcycles.
Has anybody done this recently and got any info? I'm stuggling to find anything.

Cheers
Pete ( & Caf)

Done it on numerous occasions and although it's pretty simple, US customs are making it harder and harder with ridiculous paperwork.

Easiest port in and out of is Baltimore and don't go into New York as it's rife with officious customs and teamsters who need $10 here and $10 there which all adds up.

Let me know if I can be of help:thumb

Liverpool is a recognised gateway to North America with Ro Ro traffic, we shipped some cars that were racing at Mid Ohio back in 2002, cant remember who the shipping agents were, but the drivers of the race transporters were able to go on the ship as well, they had a fine old time but got a little fed up waiting in New York for two days whilst the paperwork and customs clearance was done.:blast

Here is one company that operates out of Liverpool there will be others if you search.

You probably won't be able to do this now as you cannot book directly with the shipping line and you will need an agent on both sides of the Atlantic . New US customs rules. Found this out to my cost this year and left me £600 lighter.......

... If the septics are a pain the arse why not check out Canadian ports of entry?

... Montreal and Toronto are just a one (long) day ride from NYC

Cheers guys, any help gratefully recieved Sgt :thumb2
Boxer, looks to me like hctravel can ship the bikes but not us.
We're not bothered about port of landing so long as it's in the north somewhere. USA or Canada no problem as we're doing east to west and then down to TDF over an 18 month period. I quite fancied NYC, just for the romance of it really so if it's a pain in the arse and there are other opptions then we'll go there instead.
Thanx for the help.

All the ships are ro/ro freighters and don't carry passengers.. The advantage of Baltimore to me is teh airport is handy and it's a taxi ride to the port. It's only about 200 miles from NYC so no worries for a nip up the the big apple.

I haven't shipped into Canada but I imagine they will be a little easier than the US.

My e-mail is [email protected] so if you ping me a mail I can let you have lots of information and probably sort your shipping out:thumb.

This is the problem I'm having, Grimaldi do freigher cruises but only go to south america but I heard a wisper that it maybe posibble to go Southampton to Halifax NS but the agents site is down so I can get hold of them at the moment. www.safemariner.co.uk
The other opption was to go QM2 (7 days, Southampton-NYC) and freight the bikes on a different vessel. I did speak to Cunnard about putting the bikes on as hand luggage and the guy on the phone was really helpful and said he'd look into it, I told him not to worry as I wasn't ready to book it at the time but we are now so i'll chance him as well.

Cheers

McGiggle-

If ya need any help on this end, let me know. Be happy to help you out in any way I can (routes, accomodations, etc)

Eric

McGiggle,

Sounds like you plan to ship your bike, but if you (or anyone else) plans to fly over and buy a bike, be advised there is no sales tax and a reasonable vehicle registration fee in the State of Oregon.

I spoke to James Cargo (Danny) really helpful but no cigar! Danny gave me some numbers of other oufits so I'll try them next week.

Cheers

Stateside, bothsides

With 26 towns called Manchester en-route, the next choice is either starting in California and riding north then zig zag via 24 states. OR start in Maine, then south, west, north, west, then south to Cal.
Its a weather thing, starting April... which way does the nice weather go????

Canada USA

Has anyone had any negative experiences with WALLENIUS WILHELMSEN?

I am shipping my bike with them (via HC Travel) and am just a little concerned having read the terms and conditions on their website, about what can be on the bike (remove number plate to stop souvenir hunters is their advice!). My bike has a fender bag and handlebar bag, panniers and top box, and tools and spares taped inside the side panels; is this going to be any problem when I take it to Southampton (they say the bike should be as supplied by the manufacturer without personal belongings, I presume that this doesn't include locks, GPS bracketry etc?), where it is leaving from to Halifax?

Also, any idea of if there any problems riding from Canada and into USA, regarding US customs/immigration. I have ESTA, and the bike will be returning by ship from Galveston (or what happens if I leave the bike in USA with a friend for a future trip?).

I have previously had my bike shipped to Alaska, and gone into and out of Canada without any issues, but just wonder if the Americans have any problems with bikes coming from Canada with a UK registration?

Any help , info or tips would be most welcome. Cheers, Steve
