Road closed near Squires Cafe

Mate says same sort of thing up Bala way yesterday. Serious and a bike involved. Sunny, lovely weather and the carnage begins eh.

Snake pass closed this afternoon. Accident; don,t know what it involves.

There are other routes but Snake Pass, Cat & Fiddle avoid like the plague on weekends and when sun is shining.

:thumb.Agree with you there Bendy. We had just been the the Ladybower, for a nosebag, and a slurp. and noticed the sign as we turned left at the lights to go to Hathersage. Warm Sunday,s are for mincing around. There,s too many fuckin Herberts and Ethels wandering around to have a good rip.

The bother with some Peak District roads is bikers with zero imagination and lemming mentality who insist on thrashing the same "biker" routes They spoil some roads for everyone but they do leave lots of other routes for those of us with more than 1/2 brain.

Serious RTC.

The first good weekend :(

Every dog and his dinner out today

I did a Trial above Fewston Reservoir, at Kex Ghyll and saw loads of dodgy driving on A59 by bikes and cars

Heard about a serious RTC on A57 Snake Pass on R2, thoughts of fast bikes flash through your mind

A lot of bikers look a wee bit rusty today and there's still plenty of salt about

I was glad to be in the Van, with the wee bike, safely in the back

We came into Glossop and A57 shut,we were taking a little back road toward Hayfield. Dont know what had happened. The bikes we encountered later through Edale were idiots down the straight and 50p through corners. Big Gert just got on with it and they caught us up again in Hope:D A well ridden GS two up always a little embarrasing especially as we didnt use 4th and 5th gear.

Was over in Chesvegas today handing over my flat as my job has finished there....
Anyway
I had to wait for about 5 minutes to turn right onto Chatsworth Road as there must have been over 100 bikes n trikes travelling up to the peaks around 13:30!!!!

Roads were heaving with bikes till we got to Disley on the way home.,

It was like the Wirral Egg Run....

Snake Pass crash

taken from the Manchester Evening News website

Biker dies after head-on collision on Snake Pass 9 Mar 2014 17:38

The male rider was on a black Kawasaki had just left Glossop when it collided with a Citroen Picasso on the winding, mountainous route.

The accident happened on the cross-Pennine A57 between Manchester and Sheffield at about 11.20am.

Police and an air ambulance were scrambled but the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

From the local press

THREE motorbikes and a car have been involved in a crash which has closed a North Yorkshire road.

The motorcyclists were injured in the crash with the Vauxhall Vectra on the B1222 close to Squires Café Bar near Sherburn in Elmet.

What is going on with these riders.
We were out yesterday and had a ride over to Whitby, like the whole of Yorkshire. Riding over the moors between Pickering and Whitby we were past by the head down arse up lads, first set of corners, and there not tight over there and we are all over them, R1200GS 2 up.
I ride all year round and I think this makes a big difference in keeping your hand in.

The minority will finish biking for the rest of us.

What are there family's thinking right now.

Makes me both sad and annoyed.

Cheers Dave.

I rode past Squires about 11am, it was heaving then so I didn't bother pulling in. Had a lovely time up on the moors on my own instead.
Heard later that a car had braked/stopped just before the bridge (as often the case because its narrow & you can't see until you're almost upon it). The first bike ran into the back of the car. The second rider hit the first bike & the 3rd rider hit the embankment attempting to avoid the others. I can't find any new updates this morning but there's no mention of that dreaded word "fatal".
Hope they're all OK. Hope they've learned a valuable lesson. Will others learn from their mistake? Probably not :augie

I hate speed cameras with a passion. They tell us they're used at accident black spots. So why haven't they been installed near Squires yet? :nenau

:DYes SWMBO and I rode up as far as Hovingham for a tasty scone ! called at squires on the way back heaving road was still closed but opened while we were there got to say had a lovely day so good had to repeat it on my own Today meet up in Glossop tomorrow with a few of the lads making the best of the sunshine !!!!!!:D

So not one but THREE bikes all manage to run into the rear of the same car - who do you think was at fault then?:blast

It begs the questions - what sort of speed were they doing and where the feck were they looking? :nenau

Did a 40 mile round trip on the Tomos today down Leicestershire back roads, ripping up the tarmac :D Didn't see one other bike out.

Went to squires on Sat & met a few friends, none of whom were at squires when the accident occurred but told a different story:
Bike 1 leaving squires heading towards bridge hit the rear of a car that stopped to let traffic thru.
The rider was thrown into the path of an oncoming bike.
Unsure which way the 3rd bike was travelling but s/he rode into the grass to avoid the others.
No new news about injuries, I'm hoping that means all were ok.
.....
As we chatted, a guy pulls out if the car park & wheelies whilst standing up all the way to the bridge. Says it all.

And the 1 in 50 get the rest of us tarred with the same brush...which is why I avoid the biker honey pots like the plague.
