Road noise

Well - I've done about 300 miles on my new 2015 and the noise is driving me nuts - from this I assume it is the tyres. That's from about 15 mph upwards with earphones in playing music................... and I'm used to KTM's!

I've just switched from Continued Trail Attack 2's to PR4 Trail's and there's definitely more tyre noise, a harsher ride and slightly slower steering. However, the wet weather grip of the Conti's wasn't particularly confidence inspiring, so hopefully the PR4's will live up to the hype once warmed up and fully scrubbed in.

Yip still on original Anakees.
Yip use ear plugs...but not in town....only longer journeys

Just wondered if someone had a wee 'widget' or something to 'deflect' the noise

Not tee worry

ANAKEES ......... Get rid of them........ ear plugs ALWAYS

If you're riding around listening for every odd noise, the GS (ANY year) is not the right bike for you. Get some proper earplugs and just ride the thing.:thumb

I really don't get this. I wear earplugs. The whining from the tyres is annoying to me and many others, I don't sit there listening out for noises. I never experienced this noise on 85,000 miles of agricultural KTM 950's and 990's - even on knobby scorpions. I went for the BMW for greater comfort / sophistication for my 12000 - 15000 miles a year. Other than this the bike seems great

It's like the view you should mtfu and put up with the KTM 990's cr@p fuelling just because it's a KTM.....

If it's that much of a problem, get some different tyres.:thumb Or a full Akra!:green gri

I'm thinking of removing the engine from my 1200, just so I can hear the noise my tyres make on the road :D

If you can hear the road noise your tyres make over the engine noise, you may be related to a bat!!

It was the excessive road noise (and droning sound on the GSA) that put me off buying the BMW LC.

But, I had a test ride on the new KTM 1290 Super Adventure yesterday (and the 1290 Super Duke), and WOW, OMG..etc..
KTM have really nailed it with 1290SA. what an incredibly good bike in almost every way (except the slightly too firm seat).

I've never liked KTM's, due fueling and reliability issues, but the 1290SA is amazballs ........and no droning/road noise either.

BTW, the Super Duke was a total let down. the S1000R is a vastly superior naked sports bike...:thumby:

thats easy.

when you're at cruising speed , pull in the clutch and close the throttle.

you'll hear everything sans engine then.

.

I gave up on GSs owing to this constant noise.
From my experiments on older 12s, the noise is mainly coming up between the forks and yoke. KTMs have a plastic shield in that area.
Try fitting a big tank bag; that will deflect a lot of this noise.

Then buy an RT.
But I still miss the ruggedness of the GS.

Ho hum......
