Chaps and Ladies, any thoughts please,

Changed onto a GSA last summer and loving it. Came with Bridgestone 502 tyres.

From the past (VFRs) I have been a lover of Bridgestone rubber - especially in the wet - very reassuring, however......

I've never ridden off road before and fancy having a bit of a go (gravel mainly I think), but, still want lovely road grip. Have read various articles on here but would love some suggestions for a newbie off road and the best tyre for mixing off and on road riding?

Are the Bridgestones any good?

Should I be thinking of Tourances?

Trail Attack / Road Attack?

Also if I change to something new is it wise to mix Bridgestone front with ??????? at the rear?

Tyres are a very personal thing so you will get loads of opinions. I had two sets of Battlewings on my GSA and quite liked them but felt I had reached the limits of the tyre on tarmac. As I don't go off road I next tried a set of Dunlop Roadsmarts which were excellent but since I never felt anywhere near the edge of the tyres grip I wondered if I was paying more than I needed to for road use. So I'm on Conti Trail Attacks now as a trial and so far they are excellent, wet or dry and were £50 cheaper for a set than the Dunlops.

If you fancy a bit of offroad then TKC80s. Very useable on the road too, although they take a bit of getting used to.

To solve the dilemna, get a cheap s/h set of ally wheels for the road tyres and use the wires for offroad. bingo, best of both worlds.

Trail Attacks....road biased dual purpose. Smoother on the road than most dual purpose tyres but will cope with light tracks.

Agreed - I am well impressed. They are great on the road in all weathers and coped OK with a muddy field at Oliver's Mount at the weekend too. My rear tyre lasted over 8,000 miles (which is close on twice what I got out of rear BT020s on my VFR) and cost £220 to replace the pair.
