I'm thinking about it at the moment, but has anyone got one that's had some serious bad weather thrown at it. My old jacket kept me warm and dry all the way to the Spanish border in the middle of winter, is a roadcrafter up to that?
And before you all say buy another jacket the same as your last one, they don't make them anymore. So there

roadcrafter suit

Vern, I have had a roadcrafter two piece for some time now and found it to be a brilliant bit of kit, easy to put on/off, loads of pockets, warm (particularly with the optional fleece jacket/trousers). They are however very expensive, unless you can take delivery whilst in the States due to postage/duty. Would also suggest you take care with the sizing, they tend to be a `snug fit`, leave some room to `grow` into. Have not had any great problems with leaking, nothings perfect.
If anyones interested I might be interested in selling mine, grey with black, 42/44" chest, 34" waist, 32" inside leg. Still fits but yes that middle section is a little snug nowdays!. :)

I actually met a bloke with one piece roadcrafter on yesterday. 8 years old, and he said he'd definatley buy another one. The only problem he ever had, was his crotch got damp in the rain sometimes, I told him that was because he was a dodery old tosser:D

I've had my Roadcrafter 2 piece for about 3 years now and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Obviously its important to get the right fit, and bear in mind its meant to be worn over a layer of clothing, but I found the people at aerostich very helpful when ordering over the phone/net- I just gave them my stats over the phone together with a description of build (fat ba..ard in my case) and the fit they suggested was perfect. The quality is also excellent and looks new every time its washed. They do however have a tendency to leak a little around the crotch area although using seam sealer along the seams on the top of the thigh helps. I have heard that the one piece doesnt suffer this problem. All in all its an excellent bit of kit, albeit somewhat expensive if you ship it back to the UK, better to try and get someone to bring it over for you.

Aerostitch

Hi Vern,

Get the Darien two piece.
That IS 100% waterproof.
The fit is cut a bit bigger, and there is no "crotch leak". The Roadcrafter is probably a bit quicker to get on but I'd trade dry balls for a couple of minutes any time :D
Quality of the Aerostitch stuff is v good, and you can get sizing alterations made if you're long\short in the arm\leg\back department.
If you have any friends\family in the states get the stuff delivered there and get them to repackage it and send it on as a gift. That way it works out a lot better price wise. If you get stuffed for VAT and Import taxes it makes the kit too dear.

I have a one-piece the advantage being that in summer I wear my shorts and T shirt underneath and when parked up all I have to do is unzip it and stuff it into my RHS pannier or topbox. It takes about 5 secs to remove.

IN A PROLONGED TORRENTIAL (FRENCH of ITALIAN) DOWNPOUR because of the amount of zips and the fact that the GS position is rather upright with minimal protection (GSA would be better) you do get a little seepage mainly because the air pressure pushes the wet stuff through the flaps and zip. But for normal wet stuff as the others say it is fine.

I ordered mine from the UK (it's your suit size) and had it delivered to my hotel in New York. Aerostich say they do it all the time.

Would I get a 2-piece - No, because it's so convenient to just slide the 1-piece on. It takes less than 10 secs.

You must remember it is an oversuit so you have to wear a sweatshirt or fleece underneath in Spring/Winter. A mate of mine went for the 1-piece having seen mine and has not been disappointed to date.

Your buying decision must be biased by what you do in summer - do you walk around in your leathers in town and at race meets, do you tour a lot in summer, do you really need 100% guaranteed waterproofness, would you like to have lots of air vents to cool you down in summer, are you going to go off-road but don't want to get hot and sticky?

Hope this helps

Vern would need an adjustment to the arm length

I collected mine in the summer while in the States and I remain delighted with it. It is, as already pointed out, an oversuit which means I can turn up to business events without the 15 minutes of re-dressing in the bog. And it is too simple to put on.

I used their sizing guide on the web (I'm 6'3" tall) and it worked.

I bought a one piece Roadcrafter nearly ten years ago. I wore it almost daily for 8 years and put about 150,000 miles on it. It finally became so faded I couldn't stand to wear it anymore.

I bought a BMW Marrakech suit and it was utterly destroyed in about two years.

I've since bought another Roadcrafter, only I bought a two piece this time.

It will leak through the crotch in heavy downpours. I bought on that was my suit size and it fit perfectly. If you talk with the nice ladies in Minnesota, they'll help you get fitted properly. If you have an opportunity to try one on, take it. It'll help you by giving you a reference point when you order.

If you require utter and complete waterproofness, the Darien is a better choice. You can order it with a zip in electric vest as well. The pants have zippers on the outsides of the legs, so they come off and on easily, but large storm flaps ensure it won't leak.

Two solutions, both terrific.
