Roadside Puncture Repair kits

Had my first puncture in the rear tyre on my 1200GS on Thursday!! What a weird riding experience trying to work out what is wrong with the bike!! Felt like a front tyre puncture but it was a rear!! The roads were very greasy and initially thought it was just the road surface!! Guess I will know the next time!!

Anyway, I managed to limp to a petrol station where I removed the nail, filed the hole and inserted the repair plug!!

I obviously did not need to use the canisters, so really only need to replace the glue tube. Is it special stuff? Where can I get some or do you have to purchase the whole kit??

PS - The hole is in the middle of the tread in a groove between the blocks, is this repair ragarded as temporary or permanent??

I was able to just order the glue and bungs thru my local BMW garage parts dept.

Failing that, Hein Gericke do a cabron copy.

I rode my tire until it wore out, as I was happy with the bung/repair (you could hardly see it after a days riding) but it's up to you to decide.........

its just vulcanising rubber glue... you can use mounting bike stuff.. its the same... no need to pay over the odds

Why not invest in a new kit of a slightly different type?

It's dead easy to rip one or more of the BMW type plugs, before you get it sealed.

Ebay has tons of them for sale (some advertised as Quad repair kits)

If your going to invest in a new one, i would recommend a stop & go set. Busters have them on offer *on offer the day after i brought one... damnit*

Tried it out on some polish biker stuck on the side of the road with his blackbird. Worked a treat, no glue used as the internal pressure of the tyre keeps the mushroom headed plug in place. Really quick to use and no mess... took literally 30 secs to fix his puncture!

£20 for the best one, but there are different kits so get the right one for you.

Remember that they always recommend you get a tyre fixed or replaced professionally with 100 miles or so and should ride below 60 mph..... but do any of us bother?
