I will be testing, correction, we will be testing (SWIMBO) the 1200GS, 1150GSA and the 1150RT on Wednesday. The deal is SWIMBO gets to choose......................which is the fastest RT colour?

Bob

Bob, for what it's worth, my Mrs said, as she pointed at the RT after a lengthy ride of both it and the GS, "We''ll get that when we're older!"

We had a great afternoon on the 1200 last week also - fantastic 'bike!

Let us all know what you think.

:beerjug:

Rain storms here but we went along anyway to let SWMBO have a look around. Sat on a few with her on the back, she preferred a 1150GS because it had really good seats.
They seemed to be of excellent quality and I expected them to be Corbins or another US import but they are made here in Montpellier by Sellerie Concept and cost about £250!
Apparently you take your seat and they fit it to your bum! Whichever bike we end up with will have some of these for sure. If anyone needs more info I can call them.

Our test rides are booked for next Tuesday, the 1200GS got a big thumbs down from SWMBO because of the panniers, she reckons they look like pizza boxes.
Does anyone know if there are other options than the alloys from a source other than BM? If not then the 1200GS is out for me.
Did BM make the last 1150GSs with the twin spark plugs?

More next week......

Rained off yet again today! Rain is not that common here in summer so I wonder if I am being sent a message from above?
Trying again Friday...........

The GSA it must be then....but

IF...you decide on the 1150RT;) remember there is a Black Metallic Special Edition out which has a load of goodies on it, because next spring the 1200RT will be launched:rolleyes:

No mention of the special edition RT here, I will ask though. Tomorrow is the day and the forecast for Montpellier is 28c and sun!

Fianally.......

Lovely morning and we were at the dealers, Moto 34 at Montpellier, as they opened. Very friendly reception, they wheeled out the 2001 R1150GS we had opted to try first as it had a top box with a back rest to fill SWMBO with confidence.

Imediate impressions...the gearbox hasn't changed much, clunk clunk. I kept the speed down and was very careful about acceleration and SWMBO relaxed and began to enjoy it. What a nice bike. Had a good ride on fairly quiet roads with no dramas. We both really enjoyed the experience.

I mentioned the seat on this bike earlier in the thread, very impressive, SWMBO was so comfortable we decided not to bother trying the RT, very positive vibes were eminating from her all directed at the bright yellow GS we had just been on.

I decided to try the R1200GS alone first then take SWMBO on it.
Off I went, two things immediately obvious, the gearbox and the smoothness of the motor. What a superb machine, I just loved it!
Having not ridden for some time I wasn't going fast but it is such a joy to place into a corner and power out of it. The brakes were a revelation also.

Back for the boss who wasn't too happy about the lack of a mechanical device to stop her falling off the back. The ride went went but on the way back I lost the plot and went around a roundabout (traffic circle for you yanks) at a normal speed and powered out of it, should have tiptoed as I had been doing!

This put SWMBO right off the 1200! We then looked at the Adventure and she decided she didn't like the seat...didn't push it as she was enthusiastic about the GS which was a result for me.
Discussing the prices with the salesman didn't go so well, she couldn't believe how much they cost.

The final outcome is that we will look for a '03 or '04 1150GS early next year, maybe buy from one of you guys. Couldn't use one this year even if we had one so this is great for me.

Couple of things that struck me later, one, just how noisy my old but new Moto 4 is, that will have to go. Two, how knackered I was after about three hours of riding. My bum was OK though which speaks volumes for that local seat.

So guys I will be mobile next year, hope to meet some of you down here.

Thanks for that Cliff. I showed them to her and her reaction was 'a large Romaine pizza with extra cheese'!
