My auxillary lights will work when I start up but within a very short time they cut out and won't work again for the rest of the day...
The next day they usually work OK (for a short time), this is sending me 'kin nuts:shoot:

Any of you electrical superstars have any ideas????

Heat..

I am not an electrical person either.. but somewhere on this forum i heard mentioned somthing about Robs switch over heating, if placed too close too something.

Since it works for a bit then stops, and works again next day, it doesnt wound mechanical, ie connections.. so could it be heat.

I had my switch/lights fitted by williams, so sadly, i dont actually know where the guys put it. But it works a treat.

Have you dropped Rob, a PM.. i am sure he may have some ideas.. too help.

That would fit the pattern, my dealer fitted mine so I'm not too sure where it is either:confused:

I'll check it out, Thanks:cool:

Look in the relay box.

i know Rob did have a problem with a batch, they were cutting out when hot.

one of the hardships of living in a warm climate, not much of a problem here Baldy :D :D

I've sent him an email but no reply, anybody know if he's about?

Mine was doing the same over the summer, though now the temp's dropped off a bit it's sropped misbehaving.

Rob is aware of the problem which is apparently caused by a component on the little black box he makes up.....

Rob's changed his work pattern recently Bawdy, so he gets on here and on his PC less, but he's still around and I've no doubt he'll be in touch.

HTH

Yep, I live in Dubai and I certainly had the 'heat related' problem. Rob has been a gent though and replaced my switch and cabling with no complaints.

Colin

P.S Rob, I still am in the process of sending the sw back to you :(

bawdy,

Just finished a six week stint in Sheffield. I'll send you a PM.

Cheers

Rob

This is interesting, mine cut out one long trip ( 170 miles) and took out my indicators with it. It was a very warm evening and I had been filtering(with spots on) on the M1 southbound for about 35 miles due to a bad accident. I only noticed when the traffic cleared and I needed my indicators again.( too busy concentrating on not twatting wing mirrors to notice no spots working). The following day it was fine and has worked fine since. I wondered if it had got hot too. It clearly had.

Marcus:(

Marcus....as a temporary fix, flash the hazard lights once-----you'll then get one use of your indicators before you have to reset them again with the hazards.

PITA but it will get you out of trouble if they go.

:)

Mine does the same thing on a long ride, cuts out then is fine the next day, and the East Midlands aint that hot! I'm just up the road from Rob but I just have'nt got round to asking him for the solution......

The only solution is to replace the unit.....Rob's making them I understand.

EDIT....though I was thinking of sticking a heat sink on mine from a PC chip......might have a problem with space where it is .

Heh, right - easier said than done; his PM box is flup.:(

Rob, my Motoswitch is also cutting out and I can't PM you or get a reply via email.

Can you assist, please?

email me at wik at blueyonder dot co dot uk.

Rik.

I have bought myself the BMW Autoswitch and as yet not fitted it to the bike cos still saving for a pair of Hella Xenon lights. If others in europe are having trouble with overheating, that doesn't give me much chance to succeed.

If someone has solved this problem riding/living in warmer climes, please let me know. A routing diagram of the wiring would be nice.
