As you say, each to their own. Mine doesn't involve senseless riding. I read your account of your 1000 mile day, and whilst it was mildly interesting, other GSers I spoke to couldn't see the point. Most people will do the math involved and will look at the wisdom of paying French autoroute tolls, forking out for petrol, wearing out tyres, sticking unnecessary miles on the bike and using up huge percentages of service intervals. And for what benefit??? Seeing France at a high speed blur? I don't call that worthwhile biking, and the 40+ other bikers on the last Brittany Ferries sailing would presumably have agreed.Greg Masters said:I like to see a well organised trip! Presumably these lads had actually booked their motorail?
But I could never quite figure why they didn't want to ride in the first place. Madrid to Algeciras is only about 400 miles, say 6 hours riding max. When Wreford and I rode to Algeciras a few years ago, we rode from the foothills of the Pyrenees in a day and were enjoying the Pimms in our Ceuta hotel before sunset.
Each to their own, but my idea of a bike ride doesn't involve trains!
Don't worry about upsetting me, I'm not affected by curmudgeonly peccant humour. For the record, it's my first year *back* to biking after a gap of 28 years, but it's more like 33 years since I first rode to Morocco on a m'bike--all the way that time, including the boring France bits.BAKERMAN said:Joyseeker has PMed me saying, That Tim on the 12, has only been riding a year, and this is his 1st bike. This is very honourable and I`m in pressed but its no excuess for me not taking the piss , sorry if I have offened .
