I've whipped my engine bars, sump guard and rocker box covers off for shotblasting and powdercoating. Does anybody know how to remove the 4 bolts and their rubber locating bushes from the rocker covers? Is it a diy job or do I need to take them to a dealer to remove with a special tool?

make sure you replace the rubbers with new items when replacing ,even if the old ones look ok also the cover gaskets

No probs mate.......they just pull out........ ;)

Well I've tried just pulling at the bolt heads but they don't wanna shift, is their any particular technique or tool I need?

If its an 11xx (not sure about the 12) then brute force and ignorance. The bolts just push through the rubbers which sit on the bolt shoulders. A rubber mallet should do the trick (the rubbers stiffen with age). Give it a whack and either the bolt and rubber will pop out or the bolt will push through.

Once you have done one it all becomes a lot more confidence inspiring......

The job can be made easier by using Scranson Grommet compressor....

As I have to get replacement rubber bushes and 1 or 2 other small items from Clarks BMW at Rednal tomorrow I'll take the rocker covers with me and ask them to pop them out - hopefully they'll do it foc as it should only take them a few minutes. :D

The words "Clarks" and "FOC" in the same sentance........................ :jes

Al, Clarks fell for my irresistable charm offensive and duly popped them out free of charge and Lee on parts even supplied me with a collet for a rubber grommet for the black side panel foc also. :thumb :thumb They are in the process of moving the service and parts receptions upstairs so they can convert the space into showroom. Rocker covers, engine bars and sump bash plate now in Redditch Shotblasting for powdercoating. :thumb :clap
