Rocker cover guards

Given that its only a matter of time before either I or the missus drop the 12 (we have to wheel it backwards down an incline on gravel to get it into the garage), i'm thinking of getting a set of rocker cover protector things. The only ones i've seen are the touratech ali guards, but at over £100 I'm struggling (a rocker cover is only £50 or something).

Any alternatives out there at realistic prices? I'm looking for something to help in a slow or zero speed drop, not save the bike when i loose going down paddock hill flat in 5th...

The BMW one drop and they're gone plastic ones retail for £65. I removed mine and replaced them with the aforementioned Touratech ones. They may seem expensive but if the BMW ones are worth their retail price then I guess that's even more true for the TT ones, especially since I bought a pair from a guy on here for £80.....

I think the point of the BMW plastic guards is to prevent the head covers from being holed in an accident (and thus losing the oil) so you can ride home aftwerwards. They are not designed to prevent damage to the covers which, as pointed out, aren't that expensive.

I wanted something with out all the tube work of the various different makes of engine bars that you can buy, but would give some protection in the event of any minor spill.

Once I had worked out the German instructions they fit very nicely and would appear to be much more robust than the BMW plastic protectors. Oh and they were 99Euro plus postage from Germany.

I've got the plastic guards - been punted off the bike at 5mph on one side and fell off in the snow on the other. On both occaisions the only damage was a scuff to the plastic guards. Based on this I'd recommend them for saving damage for low speed drops.

Can't see the point of spending any more, else you might as well replace the rocker cover itself.

I Have these on my 12, not dropped it so not test ed the protection but I pesonally think they are the best looking on the market.

I've got the BMW plastic protectors and have now fitted the SW Motech bars (Bought from Caveman. Top chap). I realise that you didn't want bars but these are quite straightforward to fit and look pretty good too. The colour match is very good and they look as though they're sturdy enough to withstand a decent knock.

Stig, you're talking rough flint with your off. The plastic things are good for low speed drops onto tarmac. Offroad stuff requires bars - but do you need bars for the road??

However... other than dropping the thing (or a low speed off)... the plastic protectors will (i believe) "give in" if there is anything other than beautifully smooth tarmac underfoot!!

But its like most subjects - we all have our own views and opinions - some will insist on metal protectors and bars for the road - just incase!! - whilst others will think - fek it.. if it slides its an insurance job anyway!!...

IMO... Tiz all down to disposable income vs. life's essentials vs. shinny bits!?!...... Oh!.. and whether you're still young enuf (in yer head) to think you and your machine are indistructable!!

turning right in central London the bike stalled and I fell off dumping the bike onto its side. The hand guards and plastic rocker cover guards did there thing and except for a few scratches on the plastic guards all ok. As for my pride, thats damaged forever.

Even worse, I did it on the forecourt of a bleeding Triumph dealer who came out goosestepping asking whats happened to the master race and their plan for worlds domination now?/!!
(did help me pick it up though)
