Rocker covers: stripping paint

Hi,
as you may have read I had a small spill the other day and now need to clean up my rocker covers. I was wondering if paint stripper would be OK to clean them up rather than
a. rubbing them back by hand
b. sending them off to be blasted
I could leave them with the character in place but the salt had got under the paint elsewhere prior so I was up for a re-spray anyway.

Anything will do. I used a rotary sanding disc attached to my Dremel multi. Sandblasting is best though. There's a thick white primer under the top coat of alloy-coloured paint. This can be a bit of a bugger with stripper and sanding is harsh on the magnesium heads if you're too brutal and impatient.

Blasting

Blasting is best - but watch out for the Magnesium rockers - sandblasting is too harsh.
Bead or Vapour blasting is best............!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have a clearance on at the moment and are selling blast cabinets for £40. I'm restoring a Morini 500 at the minute and was quoted £50 to blast both heads and barrels... so it was cheaper to buy the cabinet and clean up everything else as well.

I tried using bead to remove engine paint; it's just not abraisive enough. Paving kiln dried sand is not too sharp and cleans paint off a treat without touching the alloy.

The only down side is you need a fairly big compressor.

A buddy of mine used to pop them in his Webber barbie and bake it off until he melted a magnesium one when he forgot it ......
