Can anyone advise on a good supplier for new rocker shaft bearings for my 1981 G/S? My local bearing place can't identify a source which was surprised about. Also if anyone can give me the precise spec that would be helpful. I haik Motorworks sell for a bout £15 but just thought I'd ask. Sorry if its elsewhere on here but can't find.

Your bearing guy is right- OEM only, but try some of the Euro suppliers, 7rock or Boxer Supplies, they may be a little cheaper, and as you need 8 it mounts up.

Why does it need 8?

Its very very rare that these need changed?

Are the shafts damaged

Did someone install the rocker spindles back to front and they ran dry >??

Get a Tube of Graphogen and carefully half expose the bearing (if you pull the spindle nback all the way the needle rollers stick to your greasy fingers) and work the graphogen into the needle rollers Turning and packing so you get as much as possible in

Thanks DrFarkoff. TBH I don't know if it does as I have net taken down both sides. There was a noise emanating from the nearside so i took the cover off and inspected further. Have stripped down and will replace the 4 on that side - the spindles seem fine. Will get hold of some Graphogen and use that and do as you say with the other side. Its a my project bike which will in due course get sorted out but it needs a bit of TLC and some money spending on it to bring it put what it should look like. Worth it though I think. Rides really well. Guess I'll order 4 from Motorworks.

Bob what I am trying to say is that needing them is very very very rare

Has it been stripped before? Could some one have refitted the head gasket back to front

Perhaps the cam follower is breaking down and you get noise

Or even simpler? Perhaps you just need to shim the clearances on the rocker arm?? LINK Part 17 is the shims
