One of my 1978 airheads has an insert in on end of each rocker spindle which has to be fitted upwards, no problems there.
My second airhead, same year, has different spindles, the ends are solid, with a machined, (turned), finish. There are no punch marks at all.
On one cylinder, the single cross-drilling was uppermost, the other cylinder had the cross-drilling at the bottom.
I've hunted everywhere for more information on the correct installation of these shfts but to no avail.
Any ideas, please?

After looking on Motobiks site, it seems these spindles are the latest replacements for all post-74 airheads, as there are no markings, perhaps they can be fitted either way up?
There are no signs of damage to the bearings of the rocker arm that has had the cross-drilling at the bottom.

Problem solved.....the bike has had the latest spec. rocker spindles fitted, cross-drilled holes must be fitted at the top. I don't know how long they've been fitted the wrong way up, but luckily no damage has been caused.
