I just got these from a guy in Germany that makes a batch now and then...

Something to play with this weekend;)

So . . .

What are they made of ??

And

What is the advantage over the standard rocker mountings ??

(They look nice though, pity they can't be seen in use :D )

Steel of some sort as opposed to cheese:comfort. CNC machined.

They are supposed to significantly quieten the valve noise. Rocker end float is adjusted once and that's it... I'm told...

Its easy to sell me shit like this because I hate mechanical noise:D

He too! Let me know if they do make the top end quieter. I will have to invest for my planned winter o/haul. The next "noise" on the list will be the g/box when in neutral at tick over. That is driving me NUTS!!!!!!!:(

How much?

Well... considering MotorenIsrael sell them at €199 I thought that €120 was "reasonable". Plus P&P

If you are interested in the future, he only advertises them on the German 2-Valve GS forum. Dunno when the next batch will be...

On another tack, anyone know what the name of an aluminium paste/grease might be? Was talking to a guy last weekend who uses it on rocker gaskets. Said you can reuse the gasket umteen times as it will not stick to either face.

Not too impressed with the silicone version. One was split when I took it off...

John

I use the standard Gasket and as long as it goes onto clean Rocker cover/ cylinder head it coves off in one bit and I reuse it without problems. I do my valves on average twice a year. So changing the gasket after every three or four times doesn't cost me too much. I didn't think it was worth the cost/arse to fit the silicone ones. I get a service kit each time I change the oil so I have enough gaskets to last me untill the next millenium.:thumb

Every time I use that, a little part sticks. New gaskets please:(

A good man should know how to lube well !!!:thumb2

I'm as bad as you actually, almost ordered some Acerbis hand guards for my mono yesterday...but couldn't bare to part with £55 for a little bit of plastic ( you get tighter:ymca the older you get !! :) )

I wonder if you can get BMW OE ones in red ?:nenau

Some bits are well lubed... Hall unit O-ring weeping... gear selector shaft seal weeping... oil pressure switch weeping from the switch, not the crush seal.

Ordered parts on Tuesday, arrived in post today:thumb2 Busy weekend;)

Oooh! I like those :drool

Could be just the thing to quieten down my Mono's valve gear. I've tried everything else but the 80 engines always seem "tinkly" when they get hot.

i've spent ages tinkering with rocker end float and never made a scrap of difference to tinkly top ends.

i suspect worn cams/followers are really to blame.

AAMOI guzzi moved from steel to ally rocker supports in about 83, supposedly so the expansion rate was the same as the head. they said it made them quieter. never noticed any difference there either.

edit: just been looking at a genuine bmw G/S riders handbook and valve clearances are given as 0.1 inlet and 0.15mm exhaust. i know that later it was changed to 0.2 exhaust. i also know that a clearance very slightly bigger than 0.2 causes LOTS of top end rattling, so maybe going back to the old figure is the way to quieten them down?

also in the manual was this gem re. using the kick start: "depress the the pedal with the full weight of the body to start the engine. if it fails to start, wait for the crankshaft to stop rotating, and repeat the attempt".
whoever wrote that had never actually tried to kick start one, had he? :)

Likewise. Anyway, they are on now and it does make it really easy to set the end float. None of this pinching posts together malarky for me from now on;)
I'm waiting for some new shims now though:(

While I was at it, I threw the bike on its side and replaced the gear selector shaft seal and oil pressure switch. 10 minute job:D
