What was the end of this thread? Did Taipan ride happily off into the sunset? Only I'm sort of in the same position myself - have just enough money for a new GS but could buy a Rockster 80 for half the money. Or a used approved GS and let someone else take that first depreciation hit.

Wot you should do (because I would like to do it), is get a Rockster, fit gs bars, suspension and wheels, and maybe even footrests. Stick a wee screen on it.
You would then have a nice looking practical bike.
