For Sale Rolex Explorer 36

Testing the waters for a friend-that sounds soo fishy but read on…
He is a watch dealer that I have done plenty of bathroom rework for and professionally deals in high end watches, the likes of Roger W Smith. Etc
He has been offered a 2025 new unworn Explorer 36 from Rolex and is keen not to turn it down as he is building the relationship with the aim of getting, eventually, one of the rarer models.
Apparently it’s not a super special watch but it’s rather difficult to find one at retail which is what he’s been asked to pay. He is not looking for a profit, simply to move it on and not get knocked off the good boy list.
Anyone interested, it has not been collected yet but will be available in Yorkshire.
I will be asking a couple of friends who may be interested but thought I’d get some opinions here.

If I am correct somebody did something similar. Sold a new watch as soon as he purchased it. The new owner of the watch tried to register the watch with Rolex, seller got black listed by Rolex?

I asked the chap about this and he didn’t seem worried, just said prob best not to wander into a boutique and say just bought this from a friend. I’m seeing him this evening so will ask him about it

Im not sure where the “ registered it with Rolex” comes from. A new watch from an Ad will come with the credit card validation. Surely the only time the new owner would engage with the mothership would be for a warranty claim or a sevice?

It's somewhere here the story, guy went in to adjust the strap or something. The watch was already registered with the first buyer. This is where all kicked off. Anyway in this case the seller is not bothered.
Still waiting for a perpetual 36 black for the past 3 years.

Is that a lot different to an explorer?

It sounds like your buyer messed up, apparently there is no 'reegistering with Rolex', simply if you have the warranty card, you have the cover and when it needs servicing in 10 years, no-one, least of all, Rolex will care.
Anyway, I've done some research and the Explorer contains little 'unobtainium' and while it is probably available within a year if you're on the 'list', its no Daytona.

He's collecting the watch this Friday, if any one is interested , I'll pass on his details for direct contact

The point of this thread is what, someone could buy a potentially dodgy Rolex from someone's mate and suffer the ire of Rolex who don't like the way the second hand market is operating? That would have to be a hefty discount. These are luxury watches not second hand Fords. Nice watch though.

Sorry I wasn't intending to cast doubt on the OP. It is only potentially dodgy because it is not coming from a retailer, it is coming from someone's mate.

No reason the buyer can't go along to collect 'as his mate', or even wait outside.

You are correct to be cautious but as this is still in the boutique til tomorrow and as Craig mentions, no problem going along or failing that have pictures with serial number/card etc taken in boutique for later verification, I think one can be confident.
I like the discussion but it seems no one is looking for one at the moment, I’d need to sell the gs to afford it plus my affiliation lies with Omega

Not an issue whatsoever in fact.
The reason for selling is plain to see,the original buyer is held to ransom and must play various games in order to actually buy what the "customer" wants to buy.
I know no other business selli g luxury goods with the arrogance Rolex has to its customers.
Typical business model is to stock items customers want & sell them.

Yeah, games where "preferred" customers have to jump through hoops to get one.
Neither brand deserve the loyalty they demand of folk in order to spend loads of dosh in their franchise.
Great that someone has the chance to buy an Explorer without having to play AD games.

The buyer would be 'playing the games' buying from a fella who's mate has posted on a motorcycle forum about being in a queue to buy something he's 'scared' to turn down

Love the Rolex / Porsche / Goyard / Hermes model - shows they produce quality sought after products and cause loads of grumpy old men who would never buy one anyway to get their knickers in a twist.

Market has collapsed. Loads of people jumped on the bandwagon thinking of richness etc, up to 2 years ago a Perpetual used, some jokers were selling for 20/25% premium. If you are not bothered by colours you can walk in and buy one now at retail.
If you hunt carefully and you want a Rolex is no better time. Used or new.
Personally my latest instrument an Ultra 2 it’s quite something. Used it 24/7.

So , quick update, I saw the guy on Friday and he has turned down the invite to buy the watch. Whether that pushes him down the fabled list is unknown.
His wife is about to sprog in March and the best offer he got was from another dealer at £5500.
So no harm, no foul, opportunity has now gone but good to read the various points raised. I personally haven’t got the money to play the watch waiting game, I have a few Omegas and a BB58, with which I am content.
