It is still open, but according to reports on the web it's not as good value as some of the other establishments now - too expensive and too crowded apparently.

Yep. I've planned a taxing 46-mile run, taking in fissionchips at Whitby, swimming at Robin Hood Bay (for the boy, not me) and ice cream at Heartbeat-land.

They also have a takeaway counter, to the right hand side of the bloody long queue of people waiting to get inside . Get you chips and sit on the harbour wall. You may have to fend off a couple of thieving seagulls though

Trenchers also has a high reputation - to my mind the best...but bloody hell does it cost Takes yer pick and makes yer choice...and pay princely!
Trenchers for F&C and Magpie for other fish dishes, and the Whistle Stop for good no nonsense fod and puds and you won't go wrong. Naturally if you get there in time you wouldn't want to miss picking up some kippers from Fortunes and stinking out yer panniers for the year

Re fish and chips.The magpie still as popular.trenchers taken over a couple of years agther chippys worth a visit.Hadleys just over swing bridge.Riverside on church st.Royal fisheries on baxstergate.Quayside on pier road according to my daughter who just happens to work there?

Try that chippy on Eastgate in Pickering (a quick thrash over the A169 from Whitby, turn left at the roundabout in pickering, chippy 400M on your right)...........

Better than anything in Whitby or Scarborough IMHO......

fortunes kippers are the best ,there with us on all rallies ,BMF next as for the smell ,what smell,at least everone smells the same .if u want them park at whitby abby ,down the 199 steps (look out for the 2 sponcered steps by ex WHITBY 77 MOTORCYCLE CLUB ) AND YOUR NOSE WILL TAKE YOU THE REST OOF THE WAY ,OH BE EARLY,i may see you in heart beat 4 the ice cream ,be good and enjoy

The Quayside just along from the Magpie is just as good without the very, very, very long queue, just a very long queue!!

hope you enjoyed it as much as we use to, there is still the chops running round goathland ,ps ,not just lamb ones .life goes on just have them sprinning things now,
