Been thinking about doing a IAM training or something simular. Anyone got any good experiences in/around Carmarthenshire? Also any idea of the costs?

South Wales Advanced Motorcyclists do the Skills for Life Package which involves traing over 6 alternate weekends at Lougher Boat House. Which I think is Port Talbot. It currently costs £185 They have a web site just put SWAM into a search engine and if you contact ROSPA through their National site they would link you up with something local to you. Not sure if their is an active IAM group west but again if you look on the National IAM site and then groups you might be lucky.
IMHO ROSPA is better due to you getting a grading (Gold, Silver or Bronse) as apposed to a pass or fail with the IAM.
Hope this helps:):)

iam training

loughor boating club is just off the main swansea/llanelli link road by the bridge as you cross the river .....loughor!!! I did a bikesafe course with dyfed/powys police a couple of years ago, bloody fantastic, ended up with me and 1 cop(pc Wyn John) on a great run down from aberystwyth to police hq at carmarthen...at a very brisk pace!so good i've been thinking of doing another.

I did a Bikesafe course last summer with SW Police/NPT council. Great value only £20 for the weekend also a good training programme with plenty of riding. (Course subsidised by NPT for anyone who works/lives in NPT area). Ideallly I would like to do some further training and see how I get on. Found a ROSPA contact in Swansea - Steve Dancy. May drop him a mail to see whats what.

SWAM

Here is the SWAM website. I'm a member and they are running a course right now, if you can, go to Loughor Boat Club House tomorrow by 9:30am

as a trained observer for the iam , and if you want to have some observed rides to give you pointers im happy to oblige..

i accept all types of currency --- bacon rolls-coffee-tea- breakfasts etc etc.

Swansea ROADAR Group (RoSPA). Contact Ivor Evans 01792 297112. You only pay mileage costs to the observer then your test costs £54.:thumb

Advanced Rider Training in Ystradgynlais

You could always do the BMW Rider Training Level 3 Course?

Three Days with a RoSPA test on the morning of the fourth. The current pass rate is 100% with over 50% Gold (all over last 18 months). The Level 3 Course on the internet www.worldofbmw.com includes accomodation as it is targetted nationally. However if you are local and don't need accomodation then give us a call on 01639 841860 and we can sort out a local alternative?

You can also do IPT 1-2-1 training as well? If you want a chat give us call?

Hi,
as above, the Carmarthen and West Wales IAM generally meet at Morrisons Carmarthen on Sunday mornings at around 1030 for a tea then a ride out .
If you want to go for an assesment ride without obligation or commitment to a particular organisation Get in touch .
It only seems fair that before you part with ANY money you meet up and ride out with the group to see if you and the group are suited .
I am an Observer for the club and would be happy to give you some feed back and/or advice.
Although I also hold the Ropsa Gold I have not had any contact with any of the local ROSPA clubs since moving here a few years back, but have to say which ever group you choose its a positive step to improving your riding.
Good Luck.

Hi
Thanks to everyone for their kind offers of training/rides. I did however do my Rospa bike test 18 months ago with the Swansea group. By coincidence i did my car test on Sunday! Thought it would be useful as I was teaching my son to drive.
Thanks again
