hello folks, just spent half an hour on phone to norfolk line.tryin to book 2 bikes to one cabin canny be done on line.when you phone price suddenly shoots up by £200 so beware.
price in low season (june) should be £612 50 and not £822. sure its na cheep but wa wants ta head to hull its a shit hole.( tryed that last year).
any way don,t be put off ,took me three calls to get the right price sortedonyack

Why not save yourself aboot £300 and go Newcastle-Ijmuiden? To where I go in Germany, it's about the dame distance from there as from Zeebrugge.

DFDS Newcastle

As Ronno says, Newcastle is an excellent deal. It's a reasonable run from this neck of the woods and the prices are great - me and the wife are booked with them again this summer - must be at least the 20th return crossing with them - sometimes twice a year!!
Anyway, for the two of us return on one bike and a 2-berth en-suite cabin we are £264 in July - that includes a MCN 10% discount for bikers.
You also get of the ferry a lot earlier in Ijmuiden so you can get a days riding in - instead of lunchtime in Zeebrugge

Looked at ferries, as usual, for this year's trip to France and dismissed them out of hand.

2 bikes, 2 riders, 1 cabin, all meals, return, leaving late June returning early July.

Rosyth - it was so much I didn't even write it down when I regained consciousness.

Hull to Zeebrugge - £396

Newcastle to Ijmuiden - £476 (includes a slight cabin upgrade outbound)

So for the first time, we are going to brave the motorways of Englandshire and use the Chunnel.
Aside from cost, one of the main benefits is that day 2 will start well into France and that means we get to the good roads sooner.

I have always enjoyed the ferries and I am not looking forward to the trudge south but, on paper at least, there only appears to be one option.

I just hope the exchange rate recovers before June...

As rreaders on here will know I am a great fan of the Rosyth Ferry but unless there are 4 of you to fill the cabin then forget it. We are using the Newcastle ferry this year for our jaunt to Poland and beyond

Hull to Zeebrugge 1st May back on 15th May

2 riders, 2 bikes, 2 breakfasts,

Total £259.80 (including £2.00 credit card surcharge)

Down to Bari in Italy Approx £240 for both of us on the ferry to Dubrovnik then home.

Not bad I thought.

In the van, but it gave us a good idea of the journey we want to do later on in the year on the bikes.

We drove down to Dover on the way out and took the Zeebrugge/Hull ferry home which was a great way to travel.
Our cabin had four bunks of which two were folded back out the way, a wee bog and shower. ( just like offshore ...)
The crew ( some flavour of far eastern) were just great being polite, helpful and cheerful - they should give lessons to some of the grumpy useless feckers in our 'hospitality' industry..

Anyway, the overnight ferry will be the way we'll travel as hacking down the motorways of Englandshire is not how I'd choose to spend my holiday time, not when I can be sitting in the bar on a nice big ferry

One way, two passengers in a VW T5 from Zeebrugge to Hull with outside cabin cost us £235 booked a few days before departure.

Boarding was at 1630 and departure 1855.

Pished and fed by 2030.

Arrival in lovely Hull was at 0845 and we were driving north by 0930.

The cabaret of three dodgy Russians wearing tracksuits driving a five series beemer getting the once over by Belgian customs was thrown in F.O.C.

went down to euro tunnel last july ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE ON M25 not in any rush to repeat that if i can avoid it .Could not get a gap tae filter the barstewards deliberatly cut us of loads o times , stuck till a polis came through on blues ,i hung in the back dont ken if it wis legal or not but by that time a coudna care less

My preference has always been the ferry rather then trudging down to the channel. I prefer French/German "motorways" to English ones (we don't have motorways in Scotland they're just dual carriageways with the wrong signs and worse drivers). In the past the cost of fuel, accommodation and the hassle factor always ruled out the run to the channel. However the prices for the ferries this year have been mad - certainly the quotes I got.

I have always enjoyed the ferry journeys, my preference being Newcastle - good roads for most of the, relatively, short journey. The food is usually better on that route as well. Hull to Zeebrugge is also good and it is possible to use some cracking roads to get to/from Hull (from Edinburgh way).

Given the dramatic drop in the price of marine fuel oil over the last year or so and the other economic factors in play I find it hard to understand the prices on offer.

For me the best bit about the ferry is that as soon as you get on board there is that feeling of being on holiday and this incrreases as you leave the UK and the beers go down.

I've found he prices with DFDS about the same as last year, Denis and there's just nae way that Frau Ronno would sit pillion for a Dover run so it'll be Newastle for us again this year

Newcastle - Amsterdam return in August is just over £600 for 4 of us and 4 bikes. Paying about £475 to do the same journey in July with a car and 4 people.

Rosyth is great but the Newcastle boat runs every day and as said previously, you get a full day on arrival at the other end. I don't find the extra distance to Newcastle a big deal at all.
