Rosyth - Zeebrugge Ferry.....

Three years ago we used the Rosyth ferry, the wife and I and a tandem. We did it on the cheap because we hired an aircraft seat rather than a cabin.

Last year we wanted to do the same with the GS but we had to hire a cabin, so in total it was £200 more expensive for a journey that lasted much longer than the run from Newcastle. So we went to Newcastle instead and met up with lots of Scottish bikers doing the same.

Frankly they priced themselves out of the market and it doesn't come as a surprise at all that they have failed as a business. :drool

Yup - priced themselves right out of consideration. I was looking recently at visiting family in Aberdeen so the Zeebrugge Rosyth route would be ideal. During August one leg , 2 people and the car , was over 800 quid.... I thought there must have been a mistake so I double checked and it was correct - next time I checked it was even more expensive. Even trying to book a round trip made no difference. Ridiculous prices arrived at by completely incompetent Management. We booked Zeebrugge-Hull return instead for 400 quid with a premier cabin and meals included.

OTT Pricing

Only 20 min drive from home but always been way overpriced.

2hr drive to Newcastle saved hundreds of ££££s

So never used the service.

No wonder they were only running at 60% of passenger capacity.

Spot on. I'm a similar distance but (apart from 2 trips from Rosyth with Superfast when they first started operating from Rosyth and who were a bit cheaper than Norfolklines but not much), I've always used DFDS/Newcastle for my regular trips over.

It's a shame that the Rosyth route was never able to compete price-wise with DFDS but the savings were just too much for the 2.5 hour journey difference to the ferry port.

I don't think anyone else will take on a passenger ferry from Rosyth now.

Did the same this year on the bike, bit of a trek down to Hull but was worth it. Good service, good food, premier cabin and all at a very good price:thumb

Such a shame that this service is finishing. They are wrong when they say there isn't a market for passengers as there is (both ways). Its just that there isn't a market for passengers who all won a double rollever lottery jackpot. I was quoted at £930 for 1 person and a bike return.......madness. I'm using it in a few weeks and managed to get a eturn and the bike for £198 using a chair as you can't book a single birth in a cabin like the other operators do....

Sad day as I hate the trek back from Newcastle or Hull and definately from Plymouth which is what I'll be doing in September after my Spain trip :(

It was fairly obvious that this would happen when DFDS took over: they'd be competing against their own service from Newcastle.

Apparently, the passenger ferry from Rosyth was only running at 60% capacity which is no surprise given the cost of the fares. Why didn't they reduce the fare by 40% and fill the boat? :nenau

It's a pity that DFDS couldn't find a way of somehow working both Rosyth and Newcastle with a reduced service from each port but I suppose that would mean feries sitting idle in docks 30 odd hour periods.

During the ash cloud carry on I had to take the bike to get back to work. Last minute booking from Zeebrugge 102 euros(Great deal) 2 weeks later tried to book from Rosyth they wanted £430 for one way  Phoned them to check price was correct was told it was due to demand. The channel tunnel won £28 only down side is getting there.
