Massive electrical failureon a 93 GS 100. Narrowed it down to either of the above so far and as both items are off the bike now, how do i test the items? I have a test meter but arent electrically minded. ??????????????

Thanks in advance

Eazy to test rotor -

resistance between slip rings - should be about 0.6 ohms - more than say 2 ohms and it is faulty. The red light would not work if this was faulty.

Resistance from one slip ring (does not matter which if it passed the above test) to the steel body - should be more than say 10k ohms. less than tat and ift is faulty.

Diode board testing will depend on the meter your using. And is much more complex.

Can you describe why you think there is a failure ? You could give some clues..

Hi again. Thanks for reply. quite simply the bike wouldnt start one morning. Managed to jump it off (pushing, jump leads etc)
However, if i put indicators on for instance, I got no idiot lights and the bike stuttered, or stopped altogether.
Only physical signs were that the red wire from diode brd to starter was slightly chaffed, and had perhaps been rubbing on front engine casing. I tapped that up to hopefully get me away. ??? Bike bumped off again but gave up after same symptoms. Stripped bike at home. Tested diod board last night and it seems fine, but not convinced re rotor. Battery levels were ok but as ive now got it of the bike, it looks shagged out to be honest but i wll get it checked locally later today ??????????????????????????????
Thanks so far.

One problem at a time -

Flat battery ... how old is it? Get that sorted out.

The chaffed red wire may have discharged the battery .. are there exposed wires? Insulated it so it won't happen again.

Puting the indicators on and the bike stuttering may just be the falt battery.

Once the battery is ok check for the two red lights on the instrument panel - one for oil pressure the other for battery/alternator. If you don't have those you should not start the motor untill you fix them or understand why there are not working.

Usually Mr Murphy only gives you one problem at a time. Find and fix that single problem and then check for others.
