Slightly over 2 hours from Calais by motorway.
Might be useful if you're heading to the SW of France.

Thank you for that vital piece of information, comrade.

Can you tell us, please, of somewhere three and a half hours from Calais, via motorway. My mate is making a list.

Well worth a visit and a full day if you have the time.
It's a lovely city with some old looking buildings including the Cathedral which houses Richard The Lionheart's body and heart, though for some reason they're kept apart.
Lots of shopping if that's your bag.
I'm currently at the Ibis Centre, Champ-de-Mars which is very well located only a 2 minute walk from the shops and 10 minutes from the cathedral. The rooms are basic even by Ibis standards but they're clean and have air-con. If you prefer something a little nicer there's a Mercure hotel in the same building with nicer rooms which have coffee making facilities.
Both hotels share a secure underground car park at 60 cents per hour or 14 Euros 40 cents for 24 hours. If you're feeling brave you can leave your bike at the front of the hotel for no charge.

Alençon. 3 hours 45. That any good to hom/her/they?

Aha, I see. The opening post now has the details, Ibis Centre. Last night it was blank, leaving just the blue line between Calais and Rouen. This, coupled to the thread’s title lead to my confusion.

You have redeemed yourself, comrade.

PS I have amended the title for you.

PPS The city has a long and interesting history and, of course, was the place Joan of Arc was tried and put to death. The magnificent cathedral has the tomb holding the heart of Richard the Lionheart, King of England and Duke of Normandy, who died in 1199.

Yes, sorry about that. Thank you for sorting it out, almost (you might want to add 'hours' to the title :D).

Thanks again though. 👍

There's a monument on the spot where Joan of Arc met her end.

I was only there for a day and night and also visited the cathedral but remained blissfully unaware that Richard the Lionheart's heart was in there until you and Chimp posted this.:blast

Note to self; must pay more attention when visiting places.

And it turned out to be a rather nice place too and I can report that the cost of the Autoroute tolls were a 2.30Euro stretch and a 9.20Euro bit, times were realistic but an early start allowed a coffee and pain au chocolat and the option upon arrival to jump two trains ahead for additional £84 or the one an hour earlier than booked gratis. That being a little more than my hourly rate, we declined the hour saving. YMMV

I concur, great city for a wander around.

We stayed at the same hotel, I think. The underground car park is a bit tight, had to let ‘erself out before I put the Disco in the slot which had walls either side, which I did nose-first.

The next day, we stayed at an AirBNB a few miles up the road, and the Disco refused point blank to start, the battery had died. Very lucky as had it happened in the underground, I suspect it might have been a right palaver to get it out of the slot, and started to get it out of the car park.
