rough camp near loch lomond

me and 3 mates are heading over from belfast at the end of the month to applecross.are 1st stop will be somewhere near loch lomond(erskine bridge-luss and on up to fort william)can anyone suggest where we could set up camp beside the loch.

I have seen quite a few folk camping on the west side of Loch Lomand just off the A82, especially on the stretch north of Tarbet. Just a matter of keeping an eye out for a suitable location as you ride up the A82. I don't think anyone bothers about folk wild camping on the shores.

not been there for a while but you used to be able to get to the beech at mid ross about seven miles past balloch or if you prefer there is a camp site at luss let me know when your coming over may go up part of the way with you show you some good roads ....gord

Guys you need to stop at the Green Welly in Tyndrum for lunch. Then on up over Ranoch Moor. Some of the best views you will see. Put a post up when you plan to be in glasgow heading for the Erskine Bridge and onwards.

The lowlifes have been heading up there in droves to wild camp and the park authorities have got fed up with the litter and fires that have damaged the area and will be taking steps to ban wild camping on their land. They are even talking about getting the police in to move on anyone camping where they shouldn't....

The problem with that is the scrotes will just go a bit farther on up the road...

if you want a campsite not to much further then there is a good one just as you enter Tyndrum on the left. Good chip shop a few hundred yards up the road, pub with grub a short walk more..

Was at Applecross yesterday for the first time. Amazing. Tried the camping huts as had the dog and couldn't be arsed with a tent. And the forecast was rubbish. Fantastic. Applecross Inn - great food, friendly and good ale.

Drive in over the 2000ft Belach road (?!) was interesting and would have been stunning but for the low cloud.

it's not that wild, but there's a campsite right at the head of loch lomond just beyond the Drover's Inn IIRC.

there's also the Strathfillan campsite on the right at the bottom of the big hill before Tyndrum (about 4 miles out of Crianlarich)
they've got over 30 wooden wigwams, lodges and a couple of yurts, as well as space for camping.

There used to be some cracking spots to wild camp a wee bit further on in Glen Orchy and the Glen Orchy Hotel is just up the road.

Remember to pack the midge repellent though!

Naw, met a pile of them at the boat show one year and everyone got pished at the guinness stand. We all got chucked out as the place was past closing...They were OK but then the fannies moved in and it all went ultra PC, makes here look like total Armageddon.
