just got in having had my first day out since getting the tc gsa , just up the M6 and round the yorkshire dales lovely day ,but what an arse killer the seat is after about 60 miles started to move around a bit having to have more stops as the miles went by also suprised how much you have to work the box ,spent most of the time in 3rd and 4th gear just to keep the revs up ,what gear do most of you tend to ride in ,and I don't mean hat gloves jacket etc . so round the world bike not unless you spend hundreds on seats and screens etc .

I got the rallye seat for mine, it's narrower and I would have thought not so comfy as the stock. I have managed 3-400 mile days, and whilst any seat would start to get sore I can't say the GS was especially so.

The boxer engine pulls like a train from very low revs, so you don't need to keep the revs up. Fast, clear country roads I normally do in 4th, dropping to 3rd for the slower bits.

Have a Corbin on the 1150 and bought a used Sergeant for a 2011 GSA I recently acquired. Both are outstanding seats for long days and, tbh, I think the Sergeant is beginning to come out ahead of the Corbin. Also, a much lighter seat :thumb2

I've never ridden an 1150. My understanding is they have a similar power to weight to the F650/F800 twins.
I'm not being rude...but i wonder if there is something wrong wit the new bike? It shouldnt need that many gear changes!
Good luck with it ...I hope you get lots of pleasure from it.

whilst I started my 1200 GSA ownership on Friday, I can say that without doubt if I have any issues with the seat I will fit a Corbin. I had a Corbin on my 800 GS and it was an all day comfort job.

having never had a 1200 twin and coming from a blackbird don't know how torquey they shoud be , seems to get up to 70 /80 okay but saying that , i never rev it to the redline .

no probs ere

1000 miles in 20hrs on the Iron Butt last year...no probs standard seat :thumb2

Also no probs with the standard seat. I generally use 3,4 & 5th gears keeping revs 3-6k. Works for me. I'd say the seat is the least of your issues if you were going around the world on a GS.

I hated the GSA OEM seat - too tall, too narrow, too hard. I persevered but never got used to it.
The GS OEM was better but the seat pan dug into my coccyx.
I used a Corbin on the Yamahs 900 but found it well shaped but too hard, VERY heavy and not waterproof.
The GSA Sargent dug into my inner thigh though folks with longer legs than me love them.
Ive ended up with a Kahedo standard height (same as GS height). The next higher (GSA height) is better padded and more suited for long runs but I find the leg reach is too much for every day use.
I use unpadded cycle shots on long runs - the seams don't chafe my thighs in the way normal underwear does.

Touratech seats are made by Kahedo, so apart from colours they are the same.

If you plan an around the world ride you need the simplest bike you can find. An MZ250 is likely to be more suitable. For luggage carrying, consider a mono wheel trailer like a souped up Bob Yak. Not fast but you'll lose a whole lot of time waiting for BMW spares to arrive.

I have an 1100gs, and I think BMW did a great overall job in the design of this bike and it's descendants, however, they made a universal, fur lined, ocean going COCK UP when it comes to the seat!!
AND THEY DON@T FICKING LISTEN OR LEARN FROM CUSTEMER FEEDBACK....... WANKERS!!!
It has and still is a fucking nightmare to ride for more than an hour or two unless you've had buttock surgery to remove all the nerves from between your legs and all surrounding areas.
WTF are BMW thinking??
Sort it out you German halfwits, FFS!!!

Just the same with a front swing arm that weighs more then the back swing arm. Indicators that use three switches when one each side would be easier to use and easier to wire up. Funny sweep handlebars that are only comfortable if you like to sit bolt upright.

Its not a blackbird !!!
Its 60 bhp less and not as aerodynamic
If you want to race round get a hyabusa or zzr1400 .
The seat i find comfy but im a fat git so if your lighter i can imagine it being a little hard.
I tried a seargent but did not notice much difference for me.

Seats and screens are a very individual preference so bit unreasonable to criticize OE fitment. Sargent or Airhawk pad are good alternatives for seat.

You say that but BMW have done a great job of making the GSA suit just about nobody. It seems to be designed for riding while standing on the pegs. OK perhaps for the road of bones but not so great on the A303.

I find the standard seat and screen on my TC GSA just fine. Maybe a bit of "numb-bum" after several hours, but I just ride through it.

It suits me to a tee - most comfortable bike I've ever owned but then I'm 6'3" so the extra height is welcome for me. The seat however was rubbish - I have the extra high Kahedo now and that's OK for 400+ mile days.

I had an Airhawk for my arse-killing Varadero. Didn't improve it at all. Waste of money. Other people swear by them. I think the OEM seat on my 2013 GS is fine but have only done 200 mile day so far and 150 with pillion.
