Hi All,

We've been working on building a new, bike specific route builder over the past few months. The BETA version went live a week or so ago, and we'd very much like some testers and guinea pigs to try it out, break it and generally let us know how you got on with it please.

Any volunteers?

There are a couple of bugs we already know about and are working on fixes for, but we really want 'this worked, this didn't, I liked this, I hated that' stuff from guys who are used to working with the other tools that are out there (Google/MapSource/Basecamp etc).

Over to you!

Cheers

Basically I like it, created a simple route, saved it, downloaded it to my Garmin Montana. It worked, well done :thumb

Change:
1. When creating routes (right click menue), rename POI's as start point, via point and end point and place 'via' in the middle of the other two options, it makes more sense
2. Number the via points on the map and menu so it clear the order they fall in
3. Can't rename waypoints (currently POI's)

Grand, thanks for this - it's exactly the kind of stuff we're looking for.

Anybody else managed to have a play yet?

It would be great if it was built on Michelin (ViaMichelin) mapping instead of Google, but I suppose Google maybe more accessible to you

Aye, we looked at loads of different mapping engines (Bing, OpenStreetView, Nokia maps and Michelin where the biggies), but out of them all the Google API was so (SO!) much better in terms of what we can do with their data, so in the end it was a pretty easy choice.

Great shout on the byways / greenlanes - oddly enough that's not one that any of the other forums had picked up on (I knew I'd get something good out of you lot!), so thanks for that.

Again, I've no idea whether every request is possible or viable, but we are most certainly taking them all on-board, so thank you!

Very important that you can change the names of the waypoints to what they really represent such as cafe, view, B&B, without them getting screwed up by google search

Currently viapoints are dropping in the wrong order as you add them, but you probably know that (numbering would help here...)

Would be nice if you could upload gpx routes and waypoints to your website

Well done so far anyway

Yup, I can see the value in that - I'll pass it on.

Aye, that's a big we're aware of but thanks for pointing it out - you can drag and re-order them as a workaround, but that's not really the point. We'll fix it!

Agreed - things like Iron Butt rally's would be really cool to be able to drop in all your waypoints in one go. It's an idea we've been bandying around, will keep you posted if we crack it!

You can indeed, and that works very well (much better than Garmin ), but as currently the viapoints are not numbed, the order they fall in can be confusing, I know you're on it so no need to reply...

Cheers

Tried it this afternoon, kept freezing, took ages to allow me to add a post code.

Was working it hard though, wanted to put 30 ish post codes in to sort out my work route for next week.

Had to give up in the end, was taking forever.

Hmmm - yeah that's maybe asking rather a lot of it, but still - it should've coped better than that by the sounds of things.

Thanks - I'll forward this on.

Only done a quick route but looks good on Firefox 23 under Linux, obviously doesn't connect directly to my Zumo 660 but easy enough to save to disk then transfer it across. Would it be possible though to have the option to browse directly to the GPX folder on the Zumo and save the route there?

Only issue I can see is the tools windows on left (edit: sorry meant right side)are partly hidden by the bottom toolbar i.e. the "csv" button is partly obscured by "Layers" if that makes sense.

Gives me an easy to use native alternative to using mapsource under VirtualBox.

Will have a try from my android tablet later.

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet but...

The second quote was about 30 post codes.

There were 200 waypoints given out for this year's Iron Butt Rally and a 24 hour IBA rally in Europe typically has around 70 or more.

Another thought, this time on positional format

On your accommodation pages you give quite a clear Lat/Long but it will not copy/pasta to mapsource in that format

for instance:
N 55 18.939, W 2 21.696 would be better N55 18.939 W2 21.696

or better still use decimal N55.31565 W2.36160

You might as well get it right now as change it all later :P

.

Same problem here, using my Ipad i cant see any of the export options buttons at the bottom of the right hand column as they are hidden by the menu bar at the bottom of your screen. This prevents any export options from ipad, and therefore for me your route planner is unusable.

Just had a quick test at configuring a route seems to work well and quite easy to figure out as good as Tyre if not better time will tell

@MotoGoLoco: The sexiest thing about my motorcycle GPS (Urban Rider) is that I can select 'Windy roads'. And it's quite clever, too. It will take me on the motorways if all other roads are boring anyway, but it'll happily send me down the backroads if they're worth going. It also seems to have an understanding of the speed that's possible, so it still sends me the main road through a town instead of taking every 90 degree turn I could. It's great for when I have to go somewhere, but have some extra time to spare. I realize it's probably not possible for you guys to build it at this point as you seem to be using the routing by Google Maps API, but I'd definitely look at that some time down the road.

The site is looking well though, and seems to work. I have selected both MGL overlays and the top 20, but have to say I can't find routes that seem to show up because of it in Europe. The POI/Accomodation ones works fine. What am I doing wrong? This is on recent Chrome on Linux.

Hey all - just wanted to drop you a quick heads-up.

We took a great deal of notice of all your comments and feedback (as with several other bike forums we approached) and have spent the last few months working behind the scenes on the next version of our Maps system.

There's still a few wee things to iron out, but it's looking *fantastic* and so, so much slicker than the Beta version.

I'll drop you another note as soon as it's good to go, but in the meantime a very genuine THANK YOU to everybody who took the time to give us a try and tell us your thoughts. It was very valuable to us and greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

James @ MotoGoLoco
