Hi all,
I'm going to Provence in mid April and was studying the map looking for an alternative route to Reims / Troyes / Dijon / Lyon Grenoble which I usually do.

I have 2 days / 1 night to complete the journey so wondered about heading through the Jura / Lons / Besancon area?.

Has anybody any suggestions that can maybe mix a bit of autoroute with some good smaller roads, or maybe a suggestion for the overnight stay ?

As usual, any suggestions gratefuly received.

John

Which way do you normally go on the Reims, Dijon, Lyon route? Motorway or N / D roads?

Where in Provence do you want to go?

Get yourself the Michelin Blue Tourist map of France. Go down the Bis 'Holiday' routes marked.

Besancon hotel? There are loads, take your pick from ViaMichelin website.

How about Briancon? If so, try: DE LA CHAUSSEE, 4, rue Centrale. F - 05100 BRIANCON

You could go down the Route Napoleon bash, that will bring you out near Nice, but a long way from Cavaillon, if that's where you really want to go. I have a route and Garmin file from Calais to Nice, via Route Napoleon and / or Route des Grande Alps.

Also have another one that will take you from Calais, well west of Dijon, swinging around to end up in Apt, in the centre of the Luberon, heart of Provence.

Rather depends on what you want? Doing your own is pretty easy, with a simple map and at least half of the fun.

You could try looking at this: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109157&highlight=michelin it will take you some of the way, perhaps? Post #1 and #12.

and try: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104516 #2 for the maps.
