Route Napoleon - 5 day thrash or 7 day bimble, courtesy of RiDE

Heres an MRA version;

Also some good looping days out from Barcelonnette and Bourg St Maurice here;

Folder full of Alps ride outs

We always spend an extra night or two around these parts, if you just blast up RDGA you miss loads of great stuff just off to either side of it, adding one of the rides from Barc & Borg adds a lot of value to the trip for the sake of two extra days.

Personally I like to head down over a few days breaking up some motorway monotony with a blast through the Morvan and keeping of the main roads a bit once leaving Morvan, then run around the Gorge du Verdon and then picking up Grand Alps, if you prefer a "base" with luggage-less ride outs you can do a day trip around the Gorge from Barcelonnette - it is in the MRA folder link.

If not bothered about the entire "classic" route and short on time I would say after Gorge du Verdon pickup RDGA at the southern end of col d'Allos, and then exit after Cormet de Roseland, IMHO this swaps out the lesser parts of RDGA for some really good stuff....

...If you have two weeks you can do the lot, and ride down through the Vercors on the way down too.
