hi everybody, looking for the best route up from milau to calais in july. looking at the map is it best to pass paris on the left or the right up trough troyes. we are wanting to stick to the mortorways as that will give us more time in the pyrennes, any infomation would be a help cheers

On the way to Morocco in March I thourght that it would be nice not to do Boulevard Périphérique (which I dislike, and never will like doing, mostly do to the traffic), and decided to go west around Paris on the D (and optional N) roads.... Not a good idea, it added around 5 hours to my journey.

If you're catching a specific ferry/train I'd take the Troyes/Reims route - much more predictable arrival tome.

If you go by the peripherique route you'll be at the mercy of the traffic.

Troyes / Reimes

There are plenty of other good routes, not using so much of the motorway, that you can take.

Pressed for time? Leave two hours earlier.

I always go east of Paris. Bit dull once North of Reims, but usually reliable. Plenty of speed patrols now as you get nearer the ferry.

i'm going in August cruise down portsmouth to bilbao then riding back through the pyrenees, the french alps, the swiss alps, the Austrian Alps then onto eifel for a few laps of the ring....:thumb
why waste time and fuel riding down through all the dross....
