GPX Route Through Western France

Using Google maps and excluding tolls gets you this.......obviously presuming you are landing at Calais. Tolls save 3 hours. I'd split that over at least two days.

I Rode back from Saint-Jean-de-Luz, to Belfast in two days in the mid 1980's Sleeping on the Le Havre to Portsmouth ferry and at Southwaite Services in Cumbria for about an Hour when I got too sleepy to ride...........it was stupid and horrible

I overnighted there a few years back. I stayed opposite the theatre and thought it was great.
I've just bought the Knox Tor jacket in grey. Temps won't be too much of an issue now.
Now it’s your turn.
Look at the Google generated ‘no tolls’ route but only come off the motorway and onto non-tolled roads, to leave you avoiding most of them, to suit your timetable.
To assist, in a separate window, open Google maps and ask it for the most direct route. Compare the two.
To assist further, save both and overlay the pair of them in Googgle’s My Maps.

Just for fun…. Starting in St Malo, by way of example.
Avoids motorways, but it would be straight forward for you (for your holiday) to fine tune the nearly 550 miles to incorporate as many or as few motorway / tolled roads as suit your timetable.
PS I did this on an iPhone, travelling on a train between Canada Water and Clapham Junction, so it must be easy.

He might be going next year or in November, when it might be peeing down.
A week or two of hot weather, and you’d think the world was ending.

Give Paris a wide berth. I had the mis-fortune to be filtering on the periphique and nearby roads 10 days ago, horrible, and it wasnt even peak time for traffic.
Hot, dangerous and even with experience filtering, riding there is best avoided.

Also, fastest route? Best use a live navigation device imo. What looks clear now, may not be clear the next day, or even in an hours time.
Google maps could be as good as anything for this in fairness. Just select no tolls.
You will need some motorway sections…or you are in for a very long time in the saddle. Dual carriageways and Route National will have many, many roundabouts and town traffic joining. Obvious really.
Via Rouen and unfortunately Bordeaux is the quickest. See if you can time Bordeaux to miss peak times..
Edit: allow yourself one section of péage, when you leave Coquelles. If memory serves an elevated section, short, not expensive. But will save at least 30 minutes…

It’s free all the way to near enough Boulogne, which is in the right direction.
I looped around the bottom of the city of Paris, going from Le Mans to Berlin. It was fine. It was far busier crossing the Rhine into Germany.

Give or take. I usually turn up early and get on the first one leaving.
Nothing is cast in stone when I go away, apart from my first stopover place and if I don't like it, I'll just move on. I have a list of places I want to visit and if I don't get to them all, no drama.
