I have BT Infinity with their Home Hub II and ADSL download of 23/24 and upload of 9/10 Mbps. I don't think I am getting the best from the wi if side however with frequent stop start streaming generally and weak/ intermittent signal in the furthest reaches of my humble abode, a modest 5 bed semi.

The question is should I buy a range extender or a more powerful router and if so what do you recommend? I used to like Netgear but have not kept up with their latest products, my budget is fairly modest, thanks in anticipation.

Is your router in the best position for coverage around your house AND minimising the pickup of interference from other wifi users?

Are you on BT Infinity or ADSL they are different ?

We got the home hub III with our Infinity and the wifi was never very good, and then the bloody thing kept rebooting itself, ended up getting a Cisco Linksys E3200.

If you are on Infinity then most cable routers will do the job, things that are worth looking for are gigabit ethernet ports (if you have wired connections to the router) and 300n wifi or better.

Having gigabit ports even if you don't need them is a good idea as it means the routers hardware should be up to the job of handling lots of data.

The router will need a selection for PPPoE as Internet Connection Type.
