Routes from Hereford

Try a few of the roads around Ledbury and up over the Malverns. Also, the smaller roads around Ross on Wye and Newent, Hay on Wye etc. all nice roads.

YOut of Hereford towards Ross on Wye take the B 4349 to Hay on Wye, over the toll bridge at Clifford Clryo, pick up the painscastle road follow to the 470, turn left and immediate right up a C road, follow to top of hill with lovely view to your right. Take the right turn and follow to T juction B4520,left to Upper chapel then right on the B4519 to Garth.. At Beulah take the right after the petrol station (abergweayn) follow that C road and pick up signs for Lynn Brianne reservoir then onto Llandovery, have a cuppa in the west end cafe and ride the route back, there is also a lovely cafe in the forest in the way to the reservoir which opens at nooan

But then again they all are around here. :bounce1

This takes in some of the best bits of mid Wales

The roads along the Welsh border are often missed as people head for the bigger mountains west of Hay on Wye.

The A466 south of Hereford via Monmouth to Chepstow is lovely. From Chepstow you can go into the Forest of Dean and head north to Ross on Wye. The road from Coleford to Ross is good.

Alternatively, from Chepstow head to Usk via Wentwood then on to Abergavenny (popular meeting place at the bus station café). The Hereford Road out of Abergavenny passes my front door and is a particular favourite, especially the bit between Pandy & the English border at Llangua. Lovely fast sweepers.

Golden Valley from Allensmore via Peterchurch to Hay on Wye is great. The parallel Gospel pass from Llanfihangel Crucorney via Llanthony to Hay is good in places but can be a PITA as it is busy and single track.
