Anyone got one?

Anyone who's got one not buy another one?

I am looking for a second bike and I want something off the wall... test drove a ducati 848 the other day and I realised perhaps I have had enough of the fast stuff. Always had a hankering for something like the Enfield... particularly in matt green with metal boxes on. Lovely! :thumb

Come down to the next open day and have a ride.

They are certainly an acquired taste :D

you should get a good british enfield
my dads got a classic 750 enfield i think its called a constellation

open day?

where?

Every year Royal Enfield have an open day at their HQ just outside Blockley in the Cotswolds.

All the bikes are there and you can test ride as many of them as you want.

It's normally in July.

Their main website is here.

If you're heading down let me know - they're 5 minutes from my place, and I'll show you around:thumb2

Get a Woodsman,I ride Bullets in the Himalayas and in the South with Global every year ,and I think the woodsman is the best they do in the UK ,I'm sure you can fit boxes etc but for day to day fun its the best Enfield ever:thumb2

I bought a 2000 Bullet 500 a couple of years ago and it makes me SMILE :D everytime I ride it.

OK it's not as good as the GS in most areas but it's simple and fun.

Last year I fitted a scrambles seat, rear rack and got a spare rear subframe and welded on some ammo boxes.
This year I fitted some of the Ensign knobblies and an old MX front mudguard.
Even better fun on the back roads around here.
It's a lovely second bike as long as you like the occasional tweeking session to keep it running well.

Why not ...

... try the modern equivalent, an MT350 ? Cheap and comes complete with rifle box :augie

Excellent forum at MT Riders Club too :thumb

I have a 2005 500 Classic. Apart from a throttle cable breaking it has never gone wrong and the finish has proved durable. It's a joy to ride round the lanes and returns over 80 mpg. I am still suprised how much it makes me smile.

it be fun to ride my dads 1960s 750cc classic when its sorted as its got the right foot gears.

just been offered a test drive 'darn sarf' by a very helpful chap

cant wait to get there tomorrow - hope i can miss the traffic - its a 4 hour drive.

Anyone else got one that can throw in some experiences?

Newcastle Motorcycles (formerly Kawasaki Newcastle) on Scotswod road have a demo, ask for Dave Winfield:thumb2

It's a bit closer to home for you.

My Dad's just picked up a second hand one (56 reg I think) - the biggest pile of shite I have ever seen. The build quality is shocking, makes a Chinese bike look good.

Every single rubber part has perished to the point of falling apart - rubbers holding electrical components in place etc.

Rear brake lever connected to brake arm via a rod with a series of bends to get round brackets etc so when applying pressure to brake it straitens out the bends.

Chrome flaking off

Other incredibly idiotic ideas like putting swingarm bolt in from left to right, then bolting engine in which means you cant get swingarm bolt out without removing engine. Why not put it on from other side which is not obstructed by engine so you can get a spanner on the nut and slide it out

Crank cases such a bad fit it's laughable

Looks like they have had 10,000 heavy dipsticks made which are too long so rather than re-make them, they put an extension collar which screws into crank case and then dipstick screws into that.

Could go on and on............
