In 1995 I flew to Dehli, train to Agra and bought a RE for 600 Rupees. 14 months and 18,ooo miles later I sold it to the owner of a guest house for 400 Rupees. I wished for a long time I had bought it back the the Uk, but like John RTW said, outside of India it would have cost a fortune to fix and I am sure as soon as it saw a salty road the chrome would fizz like an alkaselser

I got to the point of ordering until the problems in early 2017. Looks like they are now resolved, and it seems to be a really nice bike.
But.. its over 200kg and has 24bhp. So not sure its a great 'dual sport'. Great torque apparently, but still only 24bhp.
For example the KLR 650 for sale here probably makes more sense.

Don't see it doing anything that a dr350/400 wouldn't dobut without falling to bits , or am I totally missing the point ?
Well I’ve never seen a DR400 with ally panniers for a start

Hey hey no worries, just fancied a look, I saw one up in Alaska when we were in getting rough rubber for the trip up the Dalton, it was well sorted out and I guess I was a bit envious,as it looked as if it was going to be a whole lot easier ride up to Deadhorse than the unstoppable GSA I was on
Not just the made in England ones,but the Indian built right foot change ones too.
They are unit engines with separate gearbox and engine.
Latterly known as "Traditional" models.
The later Indian built left foot change engines are totally different,and are actually semi unit (although they look like unit ones),like my 500 Woodsman was.
Likewise the finish and overall quality is in a different world and the old wives tales,anecdotes and whatevers likely as not aren't applicable.
The even later,and current Enfields are completely and utterly different again, despite probably looking the same to the layman and the terminally jaundiced.

I think it's you rather than the GSA that's unstoppable Symon
My one was one of the then new breed, back in 2006. My sprag clutch went quite regular, cracked crankcase and the piston head was shot pretty quick, as well as many other problems. The only thing that was good was that the chrome stayed shiny, a few of them that were the same age as mine was just a mass of rust.

John my experience is, happily, the opposite of yours. Mine is a 2005 ES 500. I have had one multipin connection loosen and a broken throttle cable, absolutely nowt else. Still looks like new.

I can thourghly recommend that you do not contract Shingles on your head / face area,, the way it feels this morning you guys might be riding with a mutant in June , if it was today , I probably wouldn't get past the border guards
