I seem to get the impression that some owners of the early R1200GS LC have had their bikes swapped out?? any info please as I have one of the first LC's

Mine's a May 2013 and I've had no problems so far and have no intention of parting with it just yet.

A friend of mine also has an early 2013 and he's done 28,000 miles on his with no issues! :)

63 reg - Mine had paint peeling off the engine, so had an engine change. No issues with the engine and/or the gearbox - now or earlier.

Not all bikes had issues. There are some very happy owners of the early '13 bikes. Unless you have lots of money and want to 'generally' change for a newer bike, stay with the one you have. :)

Enjoy the ride!

Ive a 13lc. No problems ..runs sweet. Although ive got a bit of fogging in the led headlight which i will let the dealer take a look at soon.

They'rrre Grrrreeaat!

My March 2013 LC has been fine (crunch into 1st accepted) and if anything getting a nicer alround feel to it as the miles tick by

So, have you had problems or have ongoing problems? Or just hoping for a free upgrade to a newer bike? The way your post is written suggests the latter.

Some have had problems and they have been fixed. And in some caes the 'fix' has been the replacement of the bike. Some have ongoing problems. And some have bikes that they really enjoy.

My bike was May 2013, so quite early. But a ride out on it yesterday reminded me that I am in the "love it and really get a buzz from riding it" camp.

Oh, and I would add that I get great and friendly service from my local BMW Mororrad dealer

+1 for a March 2013, 16000mls getting better as the miles pass(as above 1st gear harsh selection)

All this thread needs now is Johnny Boxer or JohnFoxllb to come along and tells us all how crap our bikes are  :D

My July registered LC is great apart from slightly poor gear change 2-3 3-4 and switch gear. But it is so good in other ways I will live with it, although a fix from BMW would make it so good it would make it perfect and if it could cook I would get rid of the wife!

Good to see some nice positive posts about the bike for a change

Forgot to add..my lc13 has the usual wet cluth "thunk" when selecting first gear and difficult finding neutral from first gear ,but the box works great other than that. Find when riding hard clutchless upshifts are sweet and the way to go on this bike. Always need to select neutral from second gear.

Cluth = "Lancashire for clutch"

Bought mine June 2013 ex demo.
37,000 miles now and no problems.

Rider is a bit crap mind!

Blimey Nick, your bike's done more miles than Johnny Boxer's 10 year old 1150

and just to prove it still looks good see below (Gnits is the one on the right, and mine is the baby one on the left with only 13,000 on the clock!)

Both get used all year round and both have Hilltop tunes!

His could do with a wash though!:P

What's a Hilltop tune?

It's a remap which improves fuelling done by a guy called Geoff at Hilltop. You'll get a load of information if you do a search on the forum.

Some folk have also shared their before and after dyno charts so you can see what and where the gains were on their particular bike.
