RS fairing on airhead.

I have an RS fairing I might fit to the R80/7.

I'm trying to strip the fairing down to its component parts but I'm not sure how to remove the dashboard bit where the clock and voltmeter live. It appears to be rivetted to the front centre fairing and therefore the only way to remove it would be to drill out these large rivetts?

Is there another way?

Now now don´t get all tetch just cos you´ve got a barde hand.

I think you can get replacement rivet or steel screw or plastic screw kits to re-attach the screen but don´t know if this includes the dash.

I´m in Madrid at the mo so can´t get to my bike.

The plastic rivetts have a centre core that knocks out. Have at look at Ebay Rivetts on Ebay be carefull when you knock the centre out bcause they ping off all over the place.

Certainly possible to remove and re-use the rivets , if they are anything like the ones on my previous mono RS - just gently poke out the middle bit.....not sure about metal ones though.

It's the big hollow ally fasteners he's on about.. not the normal screen type placcy ones

They aren't the ones you normally get on an RT fairing are they?

Knock the ends of the old rivets.

If using new BMW rivets, you'll need the special tool to peen them over. The tool is a work of art and lovely to use. The two sides screw together throught the center hole of the rivet with a dished edge on the two halves.

Or go down the cheap and cheerful non original route and use black plastic number plate screws.

Exactly as the ones Rob Farmer has posted above. Easiest way turned out to be 6mm drill bit to just take the lip off and then they could be pushed through as Steptoe says.
