RT 100 head bearings

back together but failed MOT on head bearings
Do you need any special tools to replace them or will they punch out.

Also due to slight accident (long and painful storey ) Tank has a large and long dent. Is there any economical repairers out there or is it better to buy a second hand Tank.

It is quite hard to get at the cups and in the BM workshop we used a blind bearing puller

but a common solution is to get an electric welder and run a bead of weld around them (which shrinks them) or a wee bit of bar across them to give you something to tap against

New cups in freezer before you do the job and while the heat is still in there gently tap them down into place with the old bearing upside down (cooled in a bucket of water first of course)

dry the water out and grease liberally with fresh grease and nip them up

check the adjustment 50 miles or so later as they sometimes seem to back off a little, maybe it's just the grease squashing out a bit and allowing a tiny bit of play

Note If you use a welder make sure that the cables including the throttle and clutch are all off the frame as heat transfer can melt them!

I have ordered bearings and borrowed puller from local agricultural mechanic
puller is slightly smaller than bmw tool but will give it a go. This is turning into a money pit

you can also use a dremel type tool with small cutting disc and just put a couple of slits in. just be careful not to cut the frame
