Rubber blocks instead of steering hardpart

I saw someone suggest using rubber blocks instead of the TT hardpart for the steering on an 11**

Any details or pics of this mod please?

I'm too tight to buy the proper item new

Hi Bob, get two rubber door stops and stick them on with no nails or similar. Job done.

BTW I had the touratech jobbie and very good it was too.

I did post pics of how I did my bike some time ago and i've had them on 3 GSs over the last 7 or 8 years.

You need an old rear knobbly tyre, not a TKC but a real knobbly.

Cut an 'H' with the centre block in the middle.
The arms of the 'H' wrap around the fork leg secured with cable ties.
You can also fix a small square of rubber or foam to the wishbone where it makes contact, which also serves to adust the steering stop.

It's not rocket science but it's also not TT prices and works, IMO, better than the TT principle.

Yep, agreed, should work absolutely no problem. Glue or zip ties, its up to you...

One of my steering stops was broken, when I bought my bike which is why I bought the TT jobbie, but a home made thing would be just as good.

Just need to find someone with a knackered tyre to chop.

What about modifying a couple of ice hockey pucks ? ( quid each in my local shop - use done to make a sidestand extender / foot thing )

Hardish rubber , could do the trick ?

The point of using a tyre block is that it absorbs the impact, a puck would be a bit hard.

No, with the correct thickness it just begins to compress as the OE steering stop touches, so if the stop breaks in a fall the rubber cushions any impact to the fork and or wishbone.
