anyone had any problem with this boot refusing to stay seated at the swingarm end? Pal says he is having problems but I cannot understand it since the boot concerned is under some compression at all times.

IIRC its held on with a zip tie.

Mine is under tension at all times and wants to contract unless secured with a cable tie. It's a real PITA to fit and secure as BWM intended.

Funny you should point this out, I noticed mine is not fitting properly after BMW fitted a new shaft last year under warranty,
I only noticed it when I took the bike out to wash it a couple of weeks ago,

There is a spreader ring inside the boot that increases the pressure between the boot and the arm.

As has been said it's held in place with a cable tie. It can be a right fiddly pig to get over the lip all the way around on the box end but perceiver it you'll get there :)

Mine wasnt seated properly...didnt find out till i took the bike for a service. When the mechanic drained FD he noticed water in the oil. They had to replace drive shaft, pinion seal and the rubber boot...fortunately on warranty

There really should be a drain hole in the bottom of the swing arm. It could have a loose rubber bung to stop it filling too fast when fording.
