I have read about accidents where a shock on the engine bash plate has punched a hole into the engine block via the studs that connects the two.

What do you think about the idea of putting some kind of thick rubber to fill the gap btw the plate and the engine to distribute the impact if you have one and make it less likely to punch a hole in the block ?

I´m not sure if it would work , maybe it would affect the cooling of the engine ???

Just thinking and looking for opinions.

The earlier and later hex heads differ, the later 2008 onwards having a hinge affair at the front and rubber bushes at the rear. Presumably to solve the issue you mention?

Ys thanks , I have a 2005 model

Ys thanks for the info. I do have the 2005 model and was thinking about these bikes with the same bash plate as mine.

On the same subject - Is the bash plate on the 2008/9 models the same as that on the earlier model? I have a 2008 GSA and a used Touratech bash plate that sits off centre if I use the original brackets.

I think the touratech plate is the same design regarding where it is screwed to the engine as the original one. If I buy a aftermarket plate I would like it to be attached to the frame of the bike.

Ok I´m browsing and ys touratech has a Reinforcement kit for the original bash plate of my bike.

No worries . Had a serious whack once in the woods from a bolder that i did not see and the plate was just gone and a friend of mine picked it up. The only thing that was damaged were the studs and the set did cost about 20 and the Oilfilter was punctured as this is made of super thin metal. Over all not to bad :aidan
