Servicing my bike next week so reading up on it now. I have done the valve adjustments a couple of times and am now looking at adjusting the rocker end play. Last time I checked it, it was within BMWs tolerance but wasn't at the minimum end.

Anyway one thing I haven't noticed whilst fiddling around with the valves but the Haynes manual does mention is not to forget to put it back in is the rubber buffer. I just can't work out where this is. Before I strip down the bike has anyone got a photo of the rubber buffer in situ. So I know what I am looking for. Cheers in anticipation. Oh and what does it do?

Its no 11 in the attached diagram.

Ok found a picture of it on ADv Rider.

What does it do and if its missing what are the consequences?

Can't remember seeing it on the last service but there again I wasn't looking for it.

It eliminates some vibrations, I quess.
Do you know what part number 10 does?
I have some idea about that.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Bandit.
I thought the same until I did my valves and rockers a couple of months ago. Nope both were still there. The pic above is slightly deceiving as the rubber mount is set a fair bit deeper than anything you need to go near with a spanner. I didn't touch mine when I adjusted up.

Well I am hoping mine are still there. But didn't want to be in a position where they weren't and it was in bits. I might ask BMW if they do a sale or return on those bits.

Had the heads off today and did the valves and checked the end play. Rubber covers all in position. They actually look and feel like plastic.

All back together and running a little quieter now.

Hi
Only just seen this.
I found that rubber part on the garage floor after I did a valve check during a service back in June, never seen it before, couldn't work out where it came from - now I know! Whoops.
Been round Poland and Alps since. Bike running sweet as a nut over 4k miles.
I'll put it back at next service
