Rubber

Hi All

My 1200 (july 04)came with Michelin Anakees which I did not feel safe on ,The bike was squirming around on every bend, i changed them at 2500 miles the rear was down to 4 mm the blocks on the sides of the rear were feathered well down.I dont remember what the front had left. i gave them to a mate who has an 1150 adventurer he thinks they are fine.

I put Bridgstone 020s on and transformed the bike. no worries wet or dry. however tyre life is not as good as i would expect from tourances.

the rear 020 lasted just over 6000 miles but it had squared off which is somthing i have never had happen on any other tyre. ( probably due to the adictive extra power.)
In that same 6000 miles the front has kept a good profile and has gone down from 4mm to 3mm. i replaced the rear with another 020 and with some luck the front will last another 6000 with it.

This experience is totaly different to the old 1150. In 2 years and 45,000 miles that only had 5 sets of tyres which always wore out in pairs. And I never let them get under 2mm tread. Original Mitchelin t66 (o.k 8000 miles) Phirelli scorpion (O.K 8000miles) Bridgstone trailwings (nasty in the wet, changed early as I did not like them 9000miles) .1st set Tourance which felt better new & unscrubbed in the wet that the trailwings did in the dry.11000miles . 2nd set tourance still on bike when it went 9000 miles.

Hope this info helps you decide. personally cost and tyre life is less important than feeling that you are going to stay on the bike.

maybe i am being a bit naive here however the vendors which dutchman refers to all seem to be blue chip companies - i would imagine that their product lineup is similar in both quality and performance - at the end of the day its personal preference
