The following was posted on the Pan forum over the other side on Bikersoracle. But the following (highlighted) section does seem to be utter bollox to me, there is nothing on Google that I can find to back up these statements, so I wondered if anyone here has heard similar statements ???


Friend of mine was until very recently an accident investigator in the Met, spent years on bikes in traffic. He's seen the official accident reports, and both riders would have crashed on any bike in his opinion. Nothing to do with the Pan weave. A few plod riders complained of the weave, then when the two deaths happened everyone just assumed it caused them.

He also saw the testing done after the crashes, which again in his opinion was utter bollocks. Fully loaded police spec Pan, ridden flat out at bruntingthorpe by an ex BSB rider, whose opinion was ' worst bike he'd ever ridden' which compared to R6's and RR's was probably true, but totally out of context with the issue. Should have been ridden back to back with the alternative bikes by a selection of experienced police riders.

He also told me the R1200RT's they've been on since are worse, they eat front wheels every time they go over about 120. Aparently they have a special skip just for the buckled ones!!



I was speaking to a Metpol bike rider I was teamed with on the Surrey Classic (you know when Boris shut all the roads in London for them bloody cyclists) and he reiterated that at those sorts of speeds the front wheels on the "dark side" beemer bikes don't seem to be robust enough to take the stresses place on a wheel at those speeds and they buckle and some have even shattered.

It was why the Special Excort group got shot of them in favour of Viffers, and they are probably the UK police motorcycle unit who have the highest levels of training.
