Unlike most GSA riders I do take mine offroad and it does get bashed, but its designed to, well you like to think.
After buying a new bash plate as the standard one looks like a cheese grater. Im looking for a protection bar that i could add to the crash bar, so as to protect my spot lights. As the spot lights have had Les`s h.i.d kit added to them i would like to protect them a bit more. I normally have to remove them if going off road, but why should i have to dismantle the bike prior to going offroad.
Ive tried the rugged roads ones.. no good all they do is contain the broken spot light so it gets properly squashed when the inevitabled off occurs :blast.

Any one got any ideas...?

IMHO it's the mounting position that's a problem. Have you thought about mounting them somewhere less vulnerable?

Andres

Ive looked at that, problem is there isnt anywhere I would consider any better for them, its plain stupid that you have to dismantle the bike prior to going offroad.
When i spoke to bmw there answer was that the bike is built for a more road biased customer base. GRRRRRR....!
Now where is that KTM brochere

Put a basic male / female socket into the lights' powerlead. Simple job to at least unwire them, then. You could probably addapt the mountings, too, making it easy job to whip the lights off. Or just dump the spots completely.

Trouble is Mr wapping they do have quick connectors as i have fitted Les Wassals HID kit to them and the main lights, so now they do actually do the job they were designed to (LIGHT THE WAY).
Its just a real pain to have to strip the bike down for off road lunacy, but im thinking only answer is to leave them on the garage shelf.:blast

Thankyou for your options though.:thumb2

TBF there is not a guard on the market that will cope with 300kg of bike and rider squashing it . our light guards have a fair chance of saving the lights and feedback from customers tells us so:thumb

however as with all things we like to evolve our products and due to new construction methods our latest light guards are stronger:thumb

the best way to have you're bike set up for off roading it to take off all the sticky out bits:thumb

and crashing is not inevitable,i find the fear of dropping my 1150 gives me super human strenght:D:D:D

Is this thread serious:nenau

If you want to go on the gnarly old tracks than maybe you have the wrong bike:augie

I've taken mine all over and been upside down more than once and just accept some things will break. You aren't going to protect everything and to blame the manufacturer for not making the lights strong enough for your particular is bordering on the barking mad.

I've replaced all sorts on mine but never the spots. Perhaps I crashed wrong:nenau

Hang on a minute, all i wanted to know if there was a a better way to protect my lights.

Sgt Bilco, if i wanted a uncomfortable light weight moto x bike then i would buy one, I love my GSA i can ride out to lets say the Plain have some fun and the ride her home again, and all on one tank of fuel. Why would i want another bike, this bike can do it all, ok not as fast across the real nasty stuff as a moto-x-er. But is just as much fun.

Chad. I like the look of the rugged road ones, but i found they crush way to easy, and bend out of shape, especially as they mounnt on the same bolt as the spot lamp. The design is good for protcting against shrubbery, but they can be bent by hand.

What i was looking for was a guard that could be retro fitted to the existing bar.
Well better break out the A-team music and see what i can come up with.

Thankyou all
