Can anyone out there recommend a good rucksack? I know there's a lot of decent kit for walkers etc but I'm guessing that waterproofing, fasteners and the ability to remain attached to your back at 80 plus may be overlooked by some manufacturers!

Thanks for any help.:)

We`ve all done it,and some still do,but I would advise against wearing a rucksack while riding a bike.
You could do all kinds of damage to your back in a crash.
Also,if there`s any weight in it,it won`t do much for your posture.

Best to let the bike take the load, use panniers,a box or bag/roll.

I agree with tarka.

10 years ago all the bike comics were warning riders not to wear rucksacks because of the danger of very serious spnial injury if you come off and flip over onto a loaded rucksack.

However, all the fashion victims in the mags now ride with a rucksack on their back and only one arse cheek on the bike.

Buy some decent luggage to carry the gear on the bike. Keep your back free from anything that is not flat.

I agree with tarka, have you thought of buying a baglux?
you can buy some straps to make the tank bag into a rucksack, bit safer!!!!!!

Thanks for all of your replies. I'll give it some thought but I'll probably go for bike luggage rather than a rucksack having read all the replies.:)

That rules out Elton John then.

I use a small rucksack every day to carry my waterproofs, sun glasses, and general stuff that you would have in the glove box of your car. I don't notice it at all and it is always with you.

I am a tight git and use a large back pack when I go camping on the bike. Water proofing is no problem as I use a bin liner to wrap everything in first.

I can't see the point of paying all that money for all the luggage when I am not planning on going on any long journeys for months at a time.

As for any back injuries...... It's only a 5 quid back..... I got it with my 10 quid head.
