Having trouble fitting the Rugged Roads Centre Stand Guard.

4 M6x40 Bolts & Washers, 4 nylon lock nuts, 4 P Clips.

The bolt next to the centre stand snags on the spring and over time will chew it up.

Anyone fitted one of these? How did you fit the nut&bolt next to the centre stand spring. The other 3 bolts fit no problem.

I have a 2016 Triple Black.

Thanks for any tips.

On mine I had different length bolts. Once I figured that it was much easier to locate and tighten.

Just put it on with 3 bolts it'll be right :D

Had the same problem, basically the bolts are a bit too long when fully tightened particularly noticeable as mentioned where the centrestand spring fits.... I used a Dremel with a small cutting disc to cut off excess bolt length. A faff but doable.

Hurrah Fitted at last!

After much messing finally got the damn thing on.

Top tip - cable tie the guard and P clips on first whilst on the side stand. Remove cable ties in turn as you fit the nuts & bolts.

Then do the bolt next to the centre stand spring, cut down to 17mm and fit the nut, bolt and washer whilst on the side stand. Put the bike back on the centre stand and tighten up. The other three nuts, bolts and washers go on easily after that with the bike on the centre stand!

I cut down the other 35mm M6 bolts down to about 20mm with a dremmel just to look neater. ACF 50 lightly brushed on the bolts etc and job done.

Took me a good hour or two of messing to figure this one out!

So Rugged Roads if you are reading this - how about some fitting instructions with your kit!!! It would have saved hours of messing about.

Glad you figured it out, reading your method reminded me that I did something similar, then I did it all again a few weeks later when I fitted Akra (NOT Akro......) de-cat headers and had to trim a little material from the top edge with a jigsaw, oh what fun that was :D

With help from Forum, fitted......

The problem with the Guard is the bolts supplied are too long, so as suggested I cut them down, one to 17mm the other 3 to 20mm:

Then attached clips supplied:

to centre stand with one cable ties on the bottom bar:

This holds the guard in place as you need to do the next bit with the BMW on the side stand - The centre stand springs get in the way of the top retaining bolt, which is the one that is cut down to 17mm:

It is a bit of a tight job, but once fitted, place BMW back on centre stand and fit other clips, tighten all up and that is done.....

Good luck....

Sorry I've only just seen this thread. It seems that somewhere along the line we must have got muddled up with the bolt lengths and have been sending out ones which are too long.

I have made sure that all future ones are the correct length, and apologise for the problems you have encountered.

If anyone needs shorter bolts, please drop me an email at [email protected] and I will send you a set.

With regards to fitting instructions...we're working on them. In the meantime, if you have any issues with fitting please give us a call or drop an email. Don't use the PM function here as I don't always check in very often.

Umm.... Pardon my higgerance but what does this farkle protect the centre stand from?

Very good question. I concluded my stand had the paint removed by stuff coming off the rear wheel, not crap coming off the front wheel. I could be wrong. My wife always says I'm wrong.
