In 43 years of riding, I’ve never had anything come close to the comfort or protection from the elements, as my current Nivala 2 suit in autumn, winter and spring uk weather. Yes, it’s expensive, but there are always deals to be had and there is sure to be good offers on the outgoing model.
Sounds like the Nivala 2 will be better than the new 3 as Rukka have had to incorporate the new Gore membrane which has had the Teflon removed due to new regs . So the Nivala 3 won’t be as repellent as the 2 as the DWR is lower so the outer will wet out more .
Rukka have also removed the Armacor protection and used a cheaper alternative.
Having had my Nivala for about five years , I still reckon they are overpriced and overrated .
Had to get a new zip in the jacket after four years as the old one bust .
Like I said above , I sold the two piece Nivala .
Later on I took a punt on the Bering Hurricane Goretex laminate jacket in a Motolegends Sunday sale . Full price was £600 but it was 50% off .
When it turned up I was delighted to find it fitted me better than the Rukka . The jacket was much longer and more comfortable.
A few weeks later I got an email from Motolegends offering me the Hurricane pants for the same half price deal , so total cost just under £550 or one third the cost of just the new Nivala jacket .
The pants are a much better fit
for me than the Nivala and the knee armour is much nicer .
Have got into Bering , and being a French company they feature heavily in local stores here in Brittany .
Have since bought two pairs of their Goretex winter gloves .
Less than half the price of the equivalent Rukka , yet more comfortable , and 100 % waterproof.
Don’t get me wrong , Rukka produce great kit but I think it’s way over priced and there are much cheaper alternatives out there that perform even better and may fit you better , depending on the individual.
