I'm still looking at the options for decent riding kit so have turned my attention to Rukka. Does anyone use the Rukka Steel Jacket & Unit Pants?

i have a rukka A-Tech suit which i'm very pleased with :thumb

100% waterproof on the garmisch trip this year, which i'm sure you'll remember, was a pretty severe test :D

can get quite warm on hot days though. minimal venting.

Funny enough, I was reading an old article today in the cafe on textile suits and the Rukka didn't score to highly, especially for the money. The one they tested leaked water in the crotch area, the testers were not impressed, especially when it was beaten by a budget Spada suite for under £180 :(

I bought a pair of Rukka trousers at last year's NEC bike show. Reduced from £390 to £250 but still VERY expensive. But I thought 'What the hell, quality product...5 year guarantee etc'.

Unfortunately they recently leaked at the crouch. They have been returned to Rukka via the dealer who also supplied a (cheaper) replacement pair whilst mine are replaced/repaired. Unfortunately they sent the wrong size, so I can't get them on! Fortunately, I still have my 7 year old, fully waterproof Dianese trousers.

Well, one month later I am still waiting for repaired or replaced trousers. Must make enquires tomorrow.

I've had/got three Rukka suits over the last 12 years. I've loved them all and will be buying Rukka again. It's my work uniform, after all. Waterproof, comfortable, washes well, protected me in a 40mph spill. They all have that fantastic soft breathable armour.

Can't remember the name of the first suit (and don't have it any more).

I've had an RVP Pro for five/six years - Goretex lining permanently attached to the Cordura outer - a bit too warm in Summer but good in winter.

I've had an AirPower for two years - Goretex lining zips out in warm weather and the Cordura lets air flow through to keep you cool when you're moving or there's a breeze.

Never had any problems with leaks myself until the RVP got crash damaged. The outer Cordura was repaired, but the Goretex lining must have some unseen damage, because when it pours down there is a small leak in the shoulder (where I landed) where water starts to come through after 15 mins or so.

Is it worth the extra? If you're going to wear your suit most days and don't mind keeping it for several years without changing it for the latest 'look', then yes.

Don't forget to look on e bay.

I got a virtually new one for £50. :D

I've had a Rukka suit for about 7 years now and until recently used it every day. It is not the original though! I'm on my third jacket and third pair of trousers, all have developed leaks (my current suit is still OK but now out of warranty) but were replaced under warranty each time with new up to date kit and sometimes more expensive too.

What I like about Rukka is that it is very well made and has good protection and when/if you have a problem during the warranty period, they send you a spare garment while they test yours out. So at least you can still ride.

I recently bought a new suit from Hein Gericke and I'm very impressed so far, the quality is very good and you get a 5 year warranty. Plus, they cost far less than Rukka, by far.

I think other manufacturers have caught up with Rukka over recent years and I would have a good look round before buying Rukka (IMO).

Also, a recent Ride report on textile suits put Hein Gericke 2nd in a test and I don't remember Rukka being anywhere near. Their 1st was some sub £1000 suit that they said was good but very bulky.

i notice HG now have suits with gore tex bonded to the outer fabric, as opposed to a loose, hanging membrane.

i think this is a much better idea & in my experience of gore tex, a more waterproof & long lasting method of construction.

they're rather cheaper than rukka too.

however, my last HG suit leaked terribly & has put me off their stuff.

I've had a HG all seasons jacket and trousers since'99 and have done about 35,40k in them and thats just when the weather has been bad(have HG lighter gear for summer) Never leaked, very warm and has never let me down. Maybe (like everything else!) they were better quality then. Still wear it and still looks good despite it never being cleaned!
