Rukka suit ( hot weather)

Hi
Looking for some advice I wear a Rukka suit looking at the temps aboard at the moment, its looking to warm to wear .
Heading to Portsmouth Santander, pyrenees, Barcelona areas. During from Scotland so I need the suit coming down for all weathers.
Can anyone recommend what to wear underneath ie keeping cool.

No funny comments please.

Thanks

Bit of a left field solution for you; ride down in your Rukka bringing hot weather lighter kit with you, stop at mine or someone closer to the ferry, change, and leave your Rukka kit safe picking it up on the way home without having to carry it with you. :thumb2

Marino Wool T-Shirt and a Macna Dry Cooling Vest.

The cooling vest keeps you dry, but drops your core temperature by upto 15 degrees using a method of evaporative cooling and airflow.

In very humid conditions, use their wet cooling vest which you immerse it in water, gel capsules hold onto the water for longer AND you can add ice packs. Downside is you'll be wet through.

Yep Halvarrsons top of the range kit, I only wear it occasionally over my EDZ climate suit if it gets really cold :blast

merino wool is the devils spawn in my opinion, the most itchy material known to man if you ask me.

Make sure you try it against your skin before you buy

Good quality Merino wool shouldn’t itch.

Some of the cheaper ‘mixed material’ or stuff that is just badly sewn together with raised seams might. The good stuff is not cheap, per-se. But, with just a little care, it will last for years. One of the best long term purchases I have ever made.

Agreed.

I wear Icebreaker Oasis 200 Merino Wool stuff.

100% Merino Wool, no blended fabrics and not itchy at all..... but it isn't cheap.

In fact it's actually soft to feel, almost silk like....

Must be how it's knitted.... try Icebreaker Oasis stuff. Its more expensive and not the same as the Icebreaker Everyday stuff... even though thats 100% Merino as well.

>>>>>> here's some cut & paste.....

A lot of our customers ask us the difference between the Icebreaker Everyday and Oasis ranges so we wanted to do a quick blog to explain the differences.

Ultimately the big difference between the two ranges is the construction of the fabric.

The Oasis range is made from a tightly knit Jersey construction whereas the Everyday range is made from a Rib knit. Jersey fabrics will hold their shape perfectly after hours or days of wear whereas with a rib fabric you may find that the fabric will start to stretch out a bit and get baggier with time.

Icebreaker consider the Oasis range to be a premium range which is designed for customers who have perfect fit and technical function high on their tick lists.

If you're looking for a baselayer to wear while walking the dog, watching the kids play football, light hikes or any activity where the main function of the layer is too keep you warm then we recommend the Everyday range.

If however you're looking for a more technical base layer for a range of outdoor activities such as skiing, fitness or hiking and you're more concerned with the fit and appearance of the garment, while also being kept warm, then the Oasis range is the one for you!

We hope that you find this helpful in choosing your perfect baselayers!

So in summary all Merino Wool garments are not equal.

You need 100% non blend, and a quality tight knit for comfort and shape.

Icebreaker Oasis range does that for me.

This like an oil thread. So having had Helly Hanson Marino wool base layers for years, I have found the Pro Skins stuff to be far superior in every way, so what makes Marino Oasis better? Or is the technical base layers such as Pro Skins not really as good and its just marketing bollocks.

I bought one of the last Rukka Airman jacket and trousers. Love both especially the jacket which is a log fit with back pocket.
Don't think they make then anymore though and not sure which model was the sucessor

I used Pro Skins. BSB riders wear this kit as well. I have been wearing Pro Skins for a couple of years now, it keeps you at a constant temp in hot weather and keeps you warm in the winter. ...

It makes you wonder why anybody bothers with airconditioning when such physics defying materials are available.

I wasn't saying Icebreaker Oasis was better than Pro Skins (whatever that is).... I was pointing out that 100% Marino Wool can be woven differently, which may answer why some of it is itchy... and some of it isn't itchy.

I use Icebreaker Oasis 100% Merino Wool. It has a tight knit pattern and is not mixed with other fabrics. This stuff isn't itchy...

That is all..

Although 100% Merino Wool has excellent wicking properties, I also use a Macna Dry Cooling Vest in between the Merino and outer jacket.

This takes heat from your body, and keeps you cool. It uses evaporative cooling from airflow around you to keep you cooler.

Works for me, and you don't get so wet as it sweats for you. You therefore stay hydrated longer.

It's very clever stuff....

Used to wear marino wool, but IMHO this is stuff is a lot better. You will be warm, but you won't sweat at all and the stuff doesn't stink, it has stuff in the cloth to stop stinks. If you want to rinse it out, it will dry overnight. Wore it last year in France in 30 degs was hot but was very impressed. Infinity stock it.

Snap :D

I tend to use Icebreaker stuff as well and it is IMO the best general but a few years ago now Lidl or Aldi ( can't remember which) did some merino T shirts and the weave is so fine they feel like silk and are without doubt the best i have ever had
I bought 4 and wish i had bought more as they have not done them since

Sounds like a win. Happy days.

Merino stuff seems to last as well. Good investment.

I'm sorry..... but Pro-Skins.... are these the people here at www.proskins.co

If it is? Have you read the utter shite they have on their website? No fabric details... BUT

No need to be sorry, the stuff works and they are supplying BSB riders, so if its shite, then a lot of people have been taken in. I think the kit is good and I have just ordered some more. People are able to make their own minds up, but if you are a base layer guru as well, then we will all listen to you - or maybe not.

Just back from a very warm Spain and Portugal .. Rukka jacket no liners and just a different tech t shirt everyday and a pair of BMW Summer Pants ... their version of kevlar jeans and the mix and match was excellent ... :)

That’s bollocks, I drink loads of coffee and it has absolutely NO slimming effect...
