My dealer says the bike should be serviced at 1000 miles,but they can not service it till the 28th of july,by which time i estimate it should have between 2-3 thousand miles on the clock,will this cause any damage,also will it affect the warranty.

Funny - mine was in for the first service at 600 miles, as per the handbook. That's 1000 kilometres. Are they getting confused?

I'd try and change the oil and filter as close to 600 miles as possible.

Or try another dealer

First service is at 600 miles. The oil that is put in until the first service is very thin, purly for bedding in purposes and is not much good beyond.

I'd change it myself or as suggested find another dealer.

I had the same problem in october. When asking the dealer
what would happend if I didn't do the service in time. He told me that 1200 miles would be ok but to go futher would
void the warranty. There is also a valve inspection and other checks due at the first service so you better find a dealer that can make it within the first 1200 miles maximum.

Is this true? My dealer said don't worry about doing up to 1200miles as the oil is normal, not a thin running-in oil.
Not sure I'd like to do more than 1500 before the first oil change.

I've found Pidcocks OK, but they do get quite a waiting list at this time of year. Last year I had to wait ages for my first service which is why I'd done 1200 miles by the time they did it. To be fair they did fit me in early after I complained that it's no good having a new bike if I can't get it serviced. Clark's at Rednal are another possibility, they've always been very helpful.

First service is 1000km (600miles) and its the most important service. Not only is it not good for the engine to go over the milage but I would not want to buy a second hand bike where this had happened - so it must affect its resale value.

I'd try and get the first service as close to 600m (1,000km) as possible. It's not just an oil change.

I booked mine in advance for the day after I collected it and had a good, full first day.

I spoke to pidcocks yesterday they have moved the service forward a week,they say its ok to keep riding as long as i keep below 4000 revs and keep an eye on the oil level.

No dealer is staffed with the design engineers that devised the service schedules in the first place. They dont have the laboratories that BMW have to investigate wear and bedding in - they probably believe what they are saying but what is it based on? They dont really know - they are fobbing you off because they cant fit you in. And you will never be able to prove that any fuiture probs are related to this delay.

The best solution is to find another dealer to do the full service. The second best is to do an oil change and filter change yourself plus a general check round. You cant lose by doing this can you? 10 mins £12 for the oil and £8 for the filter.
